Getting Back Into Fitness

Collaborative Post

I have always had a love/hate affair with fitness. When I am in full flow, I love it and constantly want to strive for more. When I haven’t done anything for a while, I can barely be bothered.

I’ve recently decided to get back into fitness; mainly because I need to lose weight and wanted to lose a little before our upcoming holiday to Cyprus. I’ve managed to lose around a stone with minimal exercise but I am putting together a fitness plan for whilst I am away and for when I get back.

Due to the fact it has been some time, I want to make sure I am prepared. I’ll always make sure to have a bottle of water, anything I need for safety and perhaps some fitness oxygen too. I know that when I’m exercising I can sometimes suffer from headaches and tiredness so these cans would be of great help, increasing the oxygen in my blood. They are also by an NHS approved supplier.

So what am I planning to do?

Walking

I already do a lot of walking but I could always do better. I usually walk Jack to school, leaving Olivia at home with Steve. I could easily add an extra ten to twenty minutes into my schedule to walk around my beautiful common and get a few more steps in.

Swimming

Now this might surprise you but I can’t swim – there was an accident when I was younger and it left me terrified for many years. This year, we are renting out a private villa with its own private pool in Cyprus so I’m determined to learn – I don’t have to worry about people looking at me except Steve, my kids and my in laws so it should be achievable. Swimming is a great thing to add into your fitness routine so I am determined to do it.

Running

This won’t be right away as I need to build myself back up but I used to go running all the time – I’ve done charity runs and everything but since putting on the weight and stopping the exercise, I find running very difficult now. I want to get back into it and we also have a fantastic village running group, suitable for all abilities – I might just have to tag along with them!

Workout Videos

For those days when I can’t get out because of the kids or the weather or I just lack the energy to go out and do something fitness related, I’ll be popping a workout video or two up on YouTube and taking twenty minutes out of my day to get some exercise in. I am going to pick up an exercise resistance bands set to help me with working out at home.

I’ll even be using apps such as the RWL app to help me workout safely at home – you can download the app here.

These are just a few ways I am planning on getting back into a fitness routine. Do you have any other suggestions?

  1. Good luck with learning to swim! You can do it and it is an amazing thing to over come such a fear.

I was always a swimmer I have to admit, used to love it as a kid and was training to be a life guard but hey now I can’t see or move well so probably a good job I never finished that

  2. I have decided I need to find things I really love for it to work so walking is definitely one but my big one is tennis. I’m not very good but I’ve joined a social group where there’s 6 of us and we meet with a trainer every week for an hour and a half and I LOVE it. I do so much running for the ball but I’m really focussed on trying to hit the ball that I don’t realise until it’s over how sweaty and out of breath I am. I adore it. Good luck with your fitness journey!
