Friday Fun In The Sun

This past Friday, Jack and I had a day out with my friend Laura. We took advantage of the sunshine (despite the earlier rain storm) and managed to fit in a trillion and one things in just one day.

Our day started with a trip to Verulamium to feed the ducks. One of the geese got a little too eager and tried to take food from Jack’s hand which freaked him out a little. I don’t mind the ducks at all but the geese are another story and we may have retreated to the safety of a bench after that..

We then decided to take a trip to Verulamium Museum as it is free to St Albans residents. Luckily I had brought some ID with me to prove so otherwise I would have been forking out £5 for the privilege whilst Laura and Jack waltzed in for free!

Jack had a great time going around with his clipboard, attempting to find certain things. I found it fascinating. I haven’t visited the museum since primary school but I’ve always had an interest in Roman history, especially living so close to a city steeped in Roman history itself. It was nice to see the museum through my eyes as an adult rather than a child at primary school.

After our trip round the museum, the Splash Park was the place of choice (I didn’t take photos as there were tons of other children milling around in their swimming costumes). Jack wasn’t too keen at first but soon started to enjoy it, having a tantrum when we had to leave.

Finally we took a walk through the wildlife gardens before stopping off at The Waffle House for a quick drink and a small bite to eat. I could eat my Banoffee Waffle all over again, honestly!

Overall, we had a super fun day and it was nice to do some free stuff around my local area – I never realised just how much free stuff there was to do in St Albans and I am looking forward to finding more!
