I’ve mentioned recently that we are planning on moving soon. We need a bigger place now that we have a new addition to the household and this place is just a little too small for us. We’re already struggling to store everything and whilst we will hopefully be moving to a much bigger place, storage space in houses round this area is quite lacking. We do have a garage here but no loft – others have lofts and no garage. Our garage is currently full of cardboard boxes for items we have warranties on and some old furniture that needs to go to the dump. We have no proper space to store anything.
With the imminent possibility of my mum also moving out (she is planning to downsize from my family home – a three bed property – as since my Dad passed away in January, the place holds too many memories for her and is too big for her). The problem is I still have quite a few things of mine at her house that I’ve been storing because I can’t store them down here – items I’ve inherited from my great grandmother, my items that my Dad and I bought together that are potentially worth something, my childhood wardrobe, our spare double bed. We’ve got lots of stuff there and with her potentially moving out soon, I need to get storing my memories.
Whilst I am still living in this property, there is no way I can possibly store anything so I’ve been looking at some affordable self storage in Luton. If I could have my way, my mum wouldn’t be leaving or we’d be taking the property on – after all, its my childhood home and where I made so many memories – but I understand why she feels she needs to leave and I wouldn’t want her feeling uncomfortable. Its just so hard to think about someone else living there and having to finally move everything out there. It was my safe space, my safe haven that I knew I could run to if everything else went wrong in my life.
I know there is going to be certain things that I’ll have to bring to this house regardless such as my great grandmothers faux fur coat from many many years ago – its safely stored at my mums in my wardrobe right now. Plus I’d have to finally bring my masses of photos here too from over the years.
How do you deal with lack of storage space in your house? Do you find the same as me – you still have stuff at your parents house long after you’ve moved out?
