Being published by Shrine Bell on the 3rd of October, we very recently received Fantastic Female Adventurers: Truly Amazing Tales of Women Exploring The World by Lily Dyu.
I am always keen for my children to learn more about the wonderful people out there and especially women as they often seem to get overlooked. Jack is a big non fiction fan and loves reading about people’s adventures so I knew this would be a book he’d be interested in.

Our Thoughts
The book is for ages 8+ (although Jack has been enjoying it at the age of 7) and retails at £12.99 on the Shrine Bell website, although you can currently pre-order it for £10.39 which is 20% off the RRP.
There are plenty of inspirational stories. Jack hadn’t heard of any of the women so it was lovely to be able to introduce him to new people. I myself had only heard of Ellen MacArthur so it was interesting for me to learn more about these women too. Lily Dyu is an adventurer herself too!
Jack really enjoyed reading all the tales about the different women and what they had got up to. There are cyclists, mountain runners, astronauts and swimmers. He has always wanted to live a life of adventure and these women have proved extremely inspirational to him.
The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and really help bring the book to life. What is also great is that it has proved a real discussion point between us too as I have found the book very interesting and inspiring myself, finding out what these women have achieved in their lives.
This is such an interesting read and would be a great addition to any child’s bookshelves – especially those who are keen adventurers.

This sounds really good. I love history books and books about women who did amazing things in the past. I’d love to read this with Sylvia!
I think my eldest might be a little old for this book, but it looks perfect for my friend’s daughter (adds to Christmas list)
There are so many great women who have accomplished great adventures. I think its great to read about them and share their stories.
