Ever since we moved into our new house, I have been patiently waiting for some warmer weather and our garden furniture to turn up. Nothing beats chilling out in the garden with a glass of wine or your personal favourite tipple and a good book, does it?
With a wine cupboard fully stocked up from an online wine shop, I couldn’t wait to finally crack open a bottle with Steve and relax out in the garden. Now it is just typical that the weather has been amazing all week and has started to go downhill these past couple of days, isn’t it? Regardless, I wasn’t going to let that put me off and took advantage of a break in the winds and a sliver of sunshine to grab my book, a glass of wine and take some time out.
I am usually a white wine kind of girl but have been trying out red wine more and more during lockdown – they say tastes change as you get older and mine certainly seem to be changing. I have definitely become more adventurous in the alcohols I will try and I often find myself enjoying a red now.
One particular favourite is the rich and deep Barolo which is often described as Italy’s best red wine which is some feat! It is also a Decanter Silver Medal winner so you know you are onto a good thing with it! It’s a UK exclusive and lovely – but if you really want to maximise the experience, it is recommended to keep it until 2022!
It’s not just European reds getting all the attention either — I’ve noticed American wineries picking up some serious recognition too. Shale Oak Winery’s 2023 Syrah has had a brilliant year, racking up Double Gold and Best of Class honours at several major US wine competitions. Definitely one I’ll be adding to my ever-growing wish list.
With this being Bank Holiday weekend and the weather hopefully picking up once again, I can see me spending plenty of time out here, enjoying the sunshine, sipping on my wine and getting lost in a book. After all, that’s what hot sunny days in the garden are made for, right?

I don’t drink so I can’t comment on the wine but the table looks gorgeous. It makes the whole garden look much nicer
I used to love both red and white wines but it is strange how taste changes. I love a glass of gin now with lots of ice to sit outside with . Your outdoor arrangement looks nice x
It’s lovely sitting outside with a nice glass of something cold! I’m a lambrini girl myself lol, but my hubby does enjoy a glass of red.
That looks like a nice place to relax and to drink that delicious wine. I do drink only for occasions and I preferred to drink red wine most of the time.
We recently used an online wine shop to stock up our cupboard to. Looking forward to a glass later in front of the firepit.
I love my glass of wine and have to admit that I have been downing a few bottles during the lockdown, mainly rose and white but I do love my red with my meal.
It is so lovely to be able to sit outside in the garden now the weather is better. I have to admit I prefer white wine, or a nice cold G&T
Sounds lovely! I love beautiful sunny days when the kids are in the paddling pool, the sun is out and I can enjoy a nice glass of wine in the sun and relax!
Barolo is my favourite wine! I’ll be ordering a crate of it the minute I end breastfeeding and I’m able to indulge again. In the meantime, I’ve been enjoying alcohol-free gin on my roof terrace.
