Degustabox March 2014: My Thoughts

We were recently sent the Degustabox food subscription box to review – you can view their website here (they are also very helpful on social media – Facebook & Twitter). I love food subscription boxes, probably more than I like beauty subscription boxes – what is better than food? I’ve ordered these sections in a certain way – breakfast/snack items, dinner items and finally drinks.
Degustabox claim to offer you 10-15 food/drink products for £12.99 (inc. delivery) on a monthly subscription. You are also able to cancel at anytime which is fab news should you need to – although why would you want to?
Moma! Plain No Added Sugar Porridge & Moma! Cranberry and Raisin Porridge | RRP £1.49 each

Both of these are handy little pots if you are often in a rush (like me) or work odd shifts and need something quick and easy to eat (like Steve). These were tasty and the perfect quick breakfast in the morning.

Tyrrells Proper Popcorn Sweet & Salty | RRP £1.59

Steve isn’t the biggest fan of popcorn so neglected to try these until I had nearly finished them…oops! Whilst I wouldn’t say I love popcorn, these were quite tasty and even Jack snaffled a few!

Mexican Dave’s Legendary Tortilla Chips Nacho Cheese | RRP £1

These were loved by the whole family – we love tortilla chips as it is and nacho cheese flavour cannot be beaten. Steve loved them and I was quite fond – but it was Jack who really adored them. I found him sneaking a few when he thought I wasn’t looking…cheeky little monkey!

Schwartz Flavour Shots in Spanish Paella & Italian Creamy Herb Tagliatelle | RRP £1.40 each

Funnily enough, these were the item in the box that Steve was most excited about trying (he had seen an advert for these on the TV and was planning to pick some up next time we went to the supermarket) yet these are the only thing we haven’t tried yet. Oops. I will be posting a review and possibly recipe when we do.

Organico Italian Durum Wheat Pasta | RRP £1.44

Organico Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce | RRP £1.67

Since these were used together, it makes sense to review them together. We LOVE pasta bakes in our household so this was a more than welcome addition to the box. We still have some of the pasta left so are thinking what else we can do with it 🙂

Drink Me Chai Chai Latte Chocolate | RRP  £2.99

I was a little wary of this at first – when you open up the tub, the scent is quite overpowering so I was unsure whether I would like it and was a little dubious as to how it would taste. That being said, the taste is quite nice – but different- once your tastebuds are used to it – and I will definitely be finishing the tub up.

Shaken Udder Milkshakes (Strawberry, Banana & Chocolate) | RRP £1.50 for 3

I didn’t get a look in when it came to these – Steve and Jack shared the lot. From what Steve has told me, they were packed full of flavour and definitely don’t taste as artificial as other brands you can buy. Jack responded with a resounding ‘mmm’ – safe to say these will be making it into my shopping trolley next time I am at the supermarket – and I will also be using my coupon that came free in the box too!

Drink Me Chai Tea:Latte Earl Grey | RRP £ 6.99 for a 20 sachet box

Whilst the scent was not as overpowering as the other Drink Me Chai product, I was a little dubious with this one but once I started drinking it, it was quite a strange sensation – the taste was very weird to me, someone who loves a cup of breakfast tea, but oddly addicting too – I will definitely be purchasing some more of these!

Have you ever tried a food subscription box? What were your thoughts?

  1. I don't get the point of the box, if they give you everything you need to make the meals it makes more sense to me, but to send the Schwartz shots but not the actual stuff to make them and use the shots with is odd to me x

  2. I've had the degustabox. I think they are great value and a good way to try new products that you might not spot otherwise (for non-bloggers). I probably wouldn't subscribe but thats more down to my own lifestyle and being a single person household

  3. I've been eyeing up degustabox, they always receive great reviews and contain lots of new products. We've been using all the stock and herb pots, yet to try the ones featured here! Lucy at Lucyy Writes xx

  4. The flavour shots are amazing, I look forward to seeing what you think! My kids adored the milkshakes too! Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested

  5. never tried one but after seeing this i would now consider it trying one 🙂
