I love walking. Until I met Steve, I pretty much walked everywhere unless I had to get public transport (such as to school). Both my jobs before I met Steve were based in the village and walking everywhere meant I kept a nice, trim figure. Of course, the difference between walking everywhere and the late night car drives to McDonalds or various other fast food places or restaurants soon meant that the figure wasn’t as trim. However, I still love walking and try to do as much as possible.
Since Jack has been at nursery at my own infants school, I have been doing a lot more walking. As it is the other side of the village, you can imagine that my walk to and from school twice a day makes up for quite a large amount of steps on my Fitbit – and you would be right! However now the summer has finally arrived (even if the weather often looks a little precarious), I really want to get walking more. Taking treks up a local route called the Nickey Line or perhaps even copying what Clare does on a regular basis, going on a hike for miles and miles. She is doing an 1000 mile challenge which sounds both crazy and exciting!
Of course, if I am considering walking & hiking more, I need to invest in some good footwear and I have been looking at the range of hiking boots available at Hi-Tec. I am still trying to lose some weight and whilst walking is something I do very often, I’m sure that taking a day or two out of my schedule and going for a long walk or hike somewhere will definitely be beneficial to me and to my family.
I used to love taking the Nickey Line to Harpenden when I was young and I want Jack to experience that too. I even remember walking from Luton where my aunt lived to Harpenden Common once to visit the fair on a lush summers day. It was a long old walk and was very tiring but I loved it – I love being able to get from a to b using my own two feet and not having to rely on a vehicle of some kind.
I really hope to get walking to some fab places over the summer, is there anywhere you would recommend? Do you like walking?
