When Jess asked if any bloggers wanted to review her debut novel Secrets Of The River, I jumped at the chance. I am always eager to support other bloggers in their ventures and since releasing a book has long been a dream of mine, I was happy to see Jess have her dream fulfilled.
Despite Jess being a blogger herself, I encouraged myself to forget that and base my review on the book itself, not the author – no matter how much I wanted to support Jess, I had to go by the content of the book. Luckily, I wasn’t disappointed. Can we also talk about how beautiful the cover art is too?
Secrets Of The River – Jess McGlynn
Until recently, I had ventured away from this type of read – instead focusing on YA, dystopian or crime novels. However, there was something about the synopsis that really had me intrigued – just what was Isabelle’s secret in her past and what other secrets were the residents of the sleepy riverside French village hiding too?
It was made obvious from the outset that Isabelle’s relationship with her boyfriend was fraught, to say the least. But you were left wondering why Isabelle had decided to move to France to be with her sister, just how dark was the secret that she was holding on to so tightly? The reader soon becomes aware that plenty of other residents have their own secrets, including Isabelle’s very own sister, but how will the story pan out?
There are three possible love interests for Isabelle throughout the novel – adorable vineyard worker Matteo, US journalist Ed and the strangely mysterious Hugo. You will find yourself unsure of who to root for throughout the novel as their characters are explored in more depth.
This is the perfect summer read – it has love, lust, intrigue and a great back story. Whenever you think you may know the answers, you soon realise you are wrong. Jess has created some really fascinating characters and I would love to see more from Jess in the future. A great debut.Available now on Kindle for just £1.99!

oh what a great read. I have been making more time to read recently as I tend to be on the laptop instead which is not always as relaxing!
