Our Review
As a writer myself, I am passionate about working on writing skills and this flows down to my children too. Thankfully, Jack seems to have developed my love of the written word and absolutely loves writing stories and stuff like that all the time. I’ll even catch him writing down top facts about Pokemon!
I know they have been working on writing skills at school but I always believe that if you can supplement their education at home, then do so. I always have activity books at home for various subjects and he is allowed to use the laptop to visit educational websites such as Times Table Rockstars, Purple Mash and Reading Eggs.
When asked if we would like to review this, I had to say yes. I knew it would help him work on his writing skills whilst also remaining fun for him. I loved that the author signed it for him too, that was a really nice touch!
Jack has steadily been working his way through the book, jumping backwards and forwards into the different activities. I love that you don’t necessarily have to go in order, you can choose what activities you would like to complete. As you can see, he has been thinking long and hard about the zombie apocalypse!
So far, this has really helped him in getting better and more confident in his writing. He is less likely to ask me to help him with something and instead attempt writing it himself. He used to be very worried of getting things wrong but he takes a chance now and as a result, his writing is getting much better.
We really like the book and think it is a fantastic resource and Jack will continue to use it until he has completed everything. He already wants to see if the author has anymore books!

Lexi Rees was born in Scotland but now lives down south. She writes action-packed adventures brim full of witch-doctors, fortune-tellers, warriors and smugglers, combining elemental magic with hints of dystopia. She also writes fun activity books for children.

I love to write but I lack confidence – no idea why!
I’m so glad Jack is enjoying the activities, and getting more confident with his writing! His plan for surviving the zombies seems very sensible 🙂

The book does sound like a great tool to encourage children to write. Mine would put a lot of thought into writing about a zombie apocalypse too I’m sure.
I agree as parents we need to supplement children’s knowledge so that they are able to be better and this writing skills book sounds like the right tool. I know both my children would enjoy doing the activities in it
