My Review
It has been a while since I’ve enjoyed a collection of short stories – I’ve tended to opt for longer pieces of fiction. However I was given the opportunity to read this collection from Karl Drinkwater and it was such a refreshing change from novels.
The stories vary in topic and as with all short story collections, some are stronger than others in term of plot and characters but I enjoyed all of them nonetheless.
The author doesn’t shy away from hard hitting topics, instead choosing to confront them head on – and you often end up thinking ‘hey, this could be me in that situation..’. How I Wonder What You Are had me on the edge of my seat whilst Cry Wolf had you feeling a whole plethora of emotions before realising why that person was acting like they were.
I’m definitely going to be checking out more from the author if I can expect the talent and the quality to be on par with this book. Very impressed.

Author Bio –
Karl Drinkwater writes thrilling SF, suspenseful horror, and contemporary literary fiction. Whichever you pick you’ll find interesting and authentic characters, clever and compelling plots, and believable worlds.
Karl has lived in many places but now calls Scotland his home. He’s an ex-librarian with degrees in English, Classics, and Information Science. He also studied astrophysics for a year at university, surprising himself by winning a prize for “Outstanding Performance”. Karl is an active member of the British Science Fiction Association (BSFA), the Horror Writers Association (HWA), and the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi).
When he isn’t writing he loves guitars, exercise, computer and board games, nature, and vegan cake. Not necessarily in that order.

This sounds really good – I need something good to read!
What an interesting concept! I haven’t read short stories like that in quite some time, love how they let your mind wander into continuing the story. Actually reading a short set of stories would be perfect at the moment, it’s hard to concentrate on anything for longer bursts of time currently! Good to hear you enjoyed! Sim x
Oooh this sounds really good – like a whole bunch of Black Mirror episodes, all in one place. I haven’t read many compilations of short stories either, but this does actually sound right up my street.
I like short story collections as I find I can easily devour a whole short story in one sitting rather than jumping in and out. Sounds like a good varied book x
I like the sounds of a collection of stories like this. If you don’t like one story then I am sure another will appeal.
I used to love reading short stories when I was at school, not sure what happened but need to get back into it.
Short stories are always my favourite as I feel I can finish one quickly and move on to the next 🙂
