Bills, Bills, Bills

Bills, bills, bills. Who’d have them right? Just when you think you are getting on the right track with your life – a bill comes fluttering down onto the doormat that knocks you for six and leaves you worrying even more than before. I’ve had two bills come through recently – one for my water and another from my old gas & electric supplier; even though we left in December, I am only now just receiving my final bill.

I’ve made no secret that I owe money to some family and am a little behind on a bill or two – but pay off more than the minimum amount needed for each one every single month which, to me, means I am on the right track. My water bill is about right for once – we seem to have some trouble with our water  – either we are able to get loads of it but at other times, there is insufficient amounts. With Steve working random shifts and a toddler, we can use any amount of water at any time of day – so we need it to be available to use at all times. We’ve considered a home booster set on occasion when the water has been low but nothing has come to fruition..as yet. I’m waiting on my wages to hit my account to pay my water bill as I’m short at the moment, but that doesn’t stop them sending a reminder not even a week after they sent the bill!

When it comes to my energy bill, apparently my old supplier cannot find any record of me having paid for OVER A YEAR. Apparently, we only started paying in June last year – we started the contract in May the previous year! So they have now hit us with a final bill of £1200..fantastic! I know that the money was going out every single month but dispose of my bank statements after a year so I am having to go through my bank to sort it out and find out where the money has gone! My MIL has recommended that I go into store rather than dealing with it over the phone as it is such a mess!

I am now taking steps to reduce my usage on things but still be able to get enough usage out of things when I need them – the last thing I need is my life to be more of a mess.

Have you got any tips?

  1. I know how you feel, I got an electricity bill of £200 this month because they miscalculated my usage last September! Absolute rubbish!

  2. I haven't got any tips but wanted to send you a big big x flipping bills bad enough when they are correct but when they are wrong grrrr!

  3. I use a meter now for my gas and electric I know exactly how much is left and can cut back when I don't have much money spare. As for other bills I have to now find a way to get a rental deposit together. my current land lord was a family friend and didn't charge me a deposit now he has got ill and is thinking of selling the houses. I live month to month with nothing spare at the end so that one will be a bit tricky!

  4. Hi
Sorry to hear about the mess with your 'leccy suppliers; what a horrid situation! I hope you get it sorted soon. Any chance your supplier is NPower? If it is we have had problems- they said we didnt owe them any money month after month but of course we did- we learned that they have an 'old system' and a 'new system' one shows the amount we owe and the other says we owed nothing! If it is NPower you are with I recommend you call them up and ask them to 'look on the other system' as I bet your payments are there! We had 2 years of this-ever month- 'no you dont owe us any money' errr yes we do! 'please look at your other system'. 'oh yes i can see here you owe us money' EVERY MONTH!
You might like my blog as I talk about bills, budgets and saving money. Each month I post about how much we spend and what our budget is. You may find it use full. All the budget round up posts are posted on a specific tab on my blog.
