Summer Crumble | #MorrisonsMum

I was recently given the fantastic opportunity to be a #MorrisonsMum  – you may have seen the hashtag on Twitter. This past week, Morrisons have scaled back prices on various items and the brief we were given was to visit our local store and keep an eye out for the yellow I’m Cheaper stickers.

We also had to include a recipe – and since the food shop was to last us over the Bank Holiday weekend, we knew exactly what we were going to have…a gorgeous Summer Crumble! We also bought various summery foods like burgers and hot dogs.. We didn’t waste any time in eating those though! The majority of our time in the shop was spent in the fruit aisle… We are lucky to have a toddler who adores fruit and will always pick fruit over chocolate or sweets. Since we all love a fruit crumble, our recipe of choice seemed a fitting choice!

What you’ll need

For the crumble mix:

100g soft dark or light brown sugar (we used dark)

100g butter, cold and cubed

150g plain flour

For the filling

75g caster sugar

25-50g orange juice (only needed with fresh fruit or with frozen to taste)

750g summer berries (we used 150g raspberries, 200g blueberries, 150g blackberries, 200g cherries (halved and stoned) and 50g blackcurrants)

Adds up to roughly £2.50 per person in our household – obviously for larger households, cost per serving would be less plus we also didn’t need to use as many different fruits as we did.

The How To:

Preheat the oven to 190°C

| Put all the fruit and caster sugar into a saucepan. Bring to a simmer and let sugar dissolve. Spoon into oven proof dish. Add the orange juice if using fresh fruit or to taste if using frozen fruit – obviously, this is personal choice.
To make the crumble mix, mix flour and butter in a food processor until it looks like crumbs and stir through the dark sugar. You can alternatively put all three ingredients into a mixing bowl and make the mix with your fingers.
Put in the oven for 40 minutes and then serve with some Morrisons ice cream

I was very impressed with the quality of the ingredients at Morrisons, especially the fruit – it is kept so well and looks so yummy that we had to stop ourselves from buying it all! They definitely have some great deals and plenty of things can be found cheaper at Morrisons than they can elsewhere. Of course, there are things I could find a little cheaper in my normal shop of choice but isn’t that always the way?

  1. Looks yummy! We have a diabetic in the house so have to leave out the sugar – tastes just as good but the crumble doesn't brown & looks a bit anaemic so hide it with homemade yoghurt (really easy to make) or custard.
