Foul Play Card Game | Review

We were sent the Foul Play card game for the purpose of review. All thoughts and opinions are our own.

You all know how much I love a murder mystery – I’ve mentioned it many times so when offered the chance to review the Foul Play card game, I couldn’t resist. We’ve now played it multiple times and it is always fun seeing who manages to guess the killer first.

About The Company

With the pandemic happening, the company had to come up with a different way of providing mystery to their fans and thus Foul Play brought us the card game.  The team behind After Dark launched and licensed the game under the After Dark banner and the game came to life!

About The Game

The game costs £8.95 + p&p and is available to buy here.  It is a murder mystery card game for 2-5 players and is for ages 8+.

The Story

It is Edwardian England and the Lord of the Manor is dead. All of the servants are the lead suspects and it is up to the players to find the evidence, seek out the suspects and catch the culprit to win. There are a variety of ways to catch a killer – you can play the Good Cop game or the Bad Cop game – each comes with their own set of rules.

As a detective, you need to find the three evidence suspects which point to a specific suspect in order to catch the killer. But will you collaborate with the other detectives or will you work against each other?

What We Thought

This is such a fun game but I am actually yet to win a game – I keep getting beaten! I always end up with too many of one type of evidence card and not an A,B and C whereas Steve always manages to get them no matter how long we have been playing for, haha!

I love that there are many different cards which mean different things – red herrings are self explanatory and what no one wants, crime scene enables you to swap one of your cards from one from the crime scene in the hope that it helps you, fair play is where you swap with another player, foul play is where you take from another player. There is also full co-operation where everyone has to show their hand, interrogate where you can peruse one players cards and take one and also block where you can block someone from taking your card or perhaps even revealing who the killer is, buying you some time to do your big reveal instead.

There are multiple clue a, b and c cards and you need to get one of each that matches a particular suspect before you can claim to know who the killer is. But beware some are related which might have a bearing on one of the clues!

I love that you can play for ages – there is no time limit which means you can play for five minutes if someone is extremely lucky with their cards or it can go on for an hour.

This is a really fun game for the family. Jack is old enough to play it with us so we will be introducing him to it soon as he loves card games. The game really makes you think and you have to consider everything before making your claim.

Hopefully soon I will win a game but until then I will keep playing as it is so much fun playing the game itself!

Is this a game you could see yourself playing?
