Collaborative Post
I have made no secret of the fact that it has been extremely difficult to adjust to both of the kids being back at school, Olivia being in for the mornings at nursery and Jack being in all day. I’ve now got more time back but am finding it hard to settle back into the routine that I had before Christmas.
In recent weeks, especially over the latest lockdown, we have all been feeling a little sluggish and for us adults, unhappy with our weight. Wanting everyone in the house to eat a little healthier as we don’t think everyone is getting all the nutrients they should be, we’ve been trying healthier recipes and something that has become a daily routine for Steve and Olivia in the afternoons before we pick up Jack is making smoothies.
Why We Love Smoothies
Smoothies are great because you really can stuff them full of anything and kids will love them. Olivia was a little dubious the first time she saw Daddy putting some spinach in but once she realised that you can’t actually taste it that much, she was just as keen as him to pop it in the blender. They have been trying all manners of combinations with lots of different ingredients – and I’m not going to lie, I am enjoying the taste tests whilst also happy to know I’m getting plenty of nutrients.
Something we have been thinking about is adding some superfood powders to the smoothies, such as the ones at Healthxcel. They sell 100% natural superfood powder blends with no hidden nasties which makes them the perfect thing to add to our drinks.

Why We’re Considering Superfood Powders
Nutrition is ever so important and how many of us can actually say that we are definitely getting all the nutrients we need? I know we struggle to eat our 5 a day in our house – Steve and Olivia love fruit and hate veg, I love veg but can give or take most fruits and Jack hates most of both! Until the smoothies, it has been hard to get the kids to eat things unless they are truly hidden in something else.
These superfood blends contain plenty of needed nutrients and can be used with water or your favourite juice, mixed into cereal or yoghurt, blended into smoothies or even drunk with hot water or milk. They can be added to anything, are really versatile and taste great and I think they are definitely our next step in having a healthier diet for everyone in our home.

I was thinking about getting a few different supplements for the kids as I was so sure they were missing out on certain things but now with the meals with healthier elements hidden, the daily smoothies and these superfood powders, I think they may just be getting everything they need.
Have you developed a new healthier routine since the kids went back to school?

I don’t have kids, but I am definitely trying to be stricter with my routine. Lunchtime workouts are my current thing and making sure we get out for a walk in the evening.

I don’t have kids so nothing has changed massively in the last few weeks since kids went back to school. But I am trying to stop snacking as much, although it’s not going as well as it did when I started x
I love starting the day with a nutritious smoothie. They’re so quick and convenient and they can be so tasty as well.
This is something I am trying to do too. We have got into such bad routines over lockdown so I really need to sort myself out! I do love a good smoothie and the superfood powders sound great, I think they would work well for my son for after swimming too!
