Life In A Lockdown {Linky} – Week 28

Over half a year of doing this linky now, can you believe that? Some weeks I don’t have much to say, other weeks I have a lot. I suppose that is what lockdown and restricted measures have been like for a lot of us over the past 28 weeks. Some weeks have been ever so boring and others have been fun!

As you may already know if you’re a regular visitor to this site, this linky was born from a suggestion from Jenni at Lyrical Host, my fabulous hosting company – side note: I’m thinking about writing a blog post about why I love Lyrical Host and why I would recommend them so let me know if this is something you’d like to see – and which came to fruition thanks to the brilliant mind of Sarah. Now here we are 28 weeks later (oooh, film title reference!) and still going!

The rules for linking up with us are pretty simple. All we ask is that you link back to me and Sarah in your post as we are the hosts and then answer the questions that we too answer every week. This week we have updated the questions to fit these new times so I’d love to see a few more of you joining up. Once you’ve added your post, submit it via the Inlinkz tool at the bottom of the post!

Here are the new questions:

1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
So how has the past week been for me?
1) How are you feeling/coping?
I am doing okay. Life is just going by as normal with work and school. Jack is back at Cubs, Olivia is back at Phonics and Steve is leaving his job very soon but is doing a lot of overtime so it is all very hectic.

2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
Last Tuesday we went to Phonics for the first time in seven months and Olivia loved it. It is all very safe and is following Covid-19 restrictions and it was so nice to see her smiling face and how excited she was to be back. I also went out for a meal with my mum and a couple of friends to Prezzo on Friday night and it was so nice to get out and spend time with people whilst following restrictions.

3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
I wouldn’t be surprised to see stricter restrictions come into place, especially after the press conference yesterday, but I am still on the fence about whether I think they will decide to go into another lockdown due to how much it will affect people and businesses for a number of reasons. I hope among hope though that I can spend time with my mum this Christmas and New Years however so I really hope people buck their ideas up and stop acting like idiots.

4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
That although some people acted like utter idiots during this time, the majority of people pulled together during these tough and trying times to try and get through them as best as they could.

5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
I can’t think of much actually – just stuff for the dog and the rats that they needed. A reward chart for Olivia for bedtime as we have been having a bit of a struggle with that recently.

6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
When Jimmy Carr was doing the lockdown quizzes, we really enjoyed those. We’ve also done a few Zoom quizzes and even a Zoom murder mystery thing – we’ve got another booked in for the end of the month too!

7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
That I am 30 and currently a great aunt to four kids with another one on the way. Yes, I don’t mean I am a great aunt as in a fantastic aunt, I mean as in one of my nieces has a daughter, one of my nephews has three sons and my other niece has one on the way! Steve is also a great uncle at the age of 32 with one of his nephews having had a kid too! That’s what you get from big families and older half siblings!

8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Being able to spend time with friends, being able to get out whilst following guidelines despite restrictions – yes, we had to be out of Prezzo by 10pm but we had a lovely evening anyway – we didn’t need to stay out later even if we could!

  1. Wow a great aunt that must be very strange being called that, my aunt hated it when I had C and called her a great aunt x

  2. I’m glad you got to go out with your mum and mates for a catch up meal. It really does make all the difference!
Despite there being a few muppets, I totally agree that the majority are pulling together. It has been fab to see local communities helping each other to get through all this! Hope you are having a lovely week! Sim x

  3. I am so glad Olivia got to go back to phonics and had such an amazing time! I remember a friend at school being an aunt by year 3 I think it was I always thought that was very cool haha. Do you know that it actually goes Grand Aunt then Great Aunt – like grandmother/grandfather before going onto great. No one seems to use it but I think it sounds quite cool.

  4. Wow that’s amazing being a great aunt, I don’t have any siblings so I won’t even get to be an aunt which is sad. It sounds like you are coping really well 🙂

  5. When you said great aunt I actually that that you meant that you were a wonderful aunt until you explained further. Hope you do get to spend some time with your family this Christmas and there is no further lockdown

  6. I haven’t tried doing a lockdown quiz yet but they sound like good fun. I’ve been enjoying doing Zoom cookery classes.

  7. Glad you got to go and see your mum. The quiz sounds like a lot of fun xx

  8. I cannot believe it has been half a year, what a crazy time! It sounds like you have had an ok week with some glimpses of some kind of normal in there which is always good! I have found that as time goes by with the kids back at school, my husband finally back at work etc it almost feels normal but then you remember you have to wear a face mask for the shop or you switch on the news and you realise its not normal at all. I think all we can do though is just enjoy each day as we never know when lockdown or restrictions may happen but we can’t just sit back and wait for them.

  9. That’s lovely that you got to get out with your mum and friends. It makes it a bit easier. I haven’t tried a lockdown quiz yet but I think my friend is planning one for Halloween which I’m excited for.
