Most women approach the subject of styling curly hair as if it were a problem. Meanwhile, curly hair is actually fabulous. Just looking at SJP, as Carrie in Sex and the City, has inspired many women to attain those amazing curls. Even Samantha – Kim Cattrall – looked gorgeous with a mane of curls. So, why then are women with naturally curly hair obsessed with straightening their hair?
It could be said most women aren’t happy with their natural look. Or, that there’s always room for improvement and change. While these theories might be right, the main reason is that curly hair is difficult to style. Still, curly hair is a gift, with the right care can be similar to the healthy, bouncy shiny tresses famous women display.
Shampooing and Conditioning Curly Hair.
Curly hair tends to be dry hair therefore, using shampoos and conditioners for dry hair is a must as dry hair leads to frizzy hair. Just be careful not to over-do it because shampooing strips hair of its natural oils. It’s best to shampoo once a week, rinsing and conditioning often. Occasionally, remove shampoo build up by rinsing with a cup of water with one tablespoon of vinegar.
Leave-in conditioners are great to keep hair shiny and manageable. Not all products are perfect for everyone, so it’s a good idea to experiment with different conditioners to achieve a soft conditioned curl – not a greasy one. There are excellent leave-in conditioners available such as, PhytoCurl Spray, Kiehl’s Leave-In Hair Conditioner, or Kinky-Curly Knot Today.
Deep conditioning is another crucial step for docile pretty curls. The subject of deep conditioning always comes up no matter the condition of the hair and still it is something not many women make part of their hair care routine. Deep conditioning is intensive hair repair, when included in a routine hair behaves and is less prone to damage caused by brushing, styling, and environmental damage.
Always make sure to brush hair before washing or conditioning. Brushing serves many purposes, distributing oils, getting rid of excess styling products and dirt.

Styling Curly Hair
After washing, comb hair with fingers or a comb. This method de-tangles and avoids breakage associated with brushing wet hair. Avoid hair driers, curly hair dries beautifully in the summer.
Opt for drying naturally and using good styling products that will keep curls and dry hair well conditioned.
Good Styling products are those that condition, allow for bounce and shine – curly hair should have movement, stay away from stiffening products – and prevent frizz. Experimenting with sample sizes might be the best approach.
Try, Living Proof Styling Cream, it controls frizz and conditions or Redken’s Ringlet 07 Curl Perfector {affiliate link}, lightweight and moisturizing. For those who prefer organic products try Kinky-Curly, a line of products made, especially for curly hair, with natural ingredients that protect and improve curls naturally.
