The world of boilers can be confusing for the average person. When all the big boiler names out there are claiming to offer the most reliable and effective combi boilers around, how can we possibly decide which is right for our homes?
Essentially, what is the ‘best’ boiler for one family’s home, may actually be the worst option for another family. Why? Because the decision about which boiler to go for is completely dependent on a wide range of individual factors.
For example, how many bedrooms/bathrooms does your home have? What is your budget for a new boiler? How much space do you have for a boiler to be installed? Do you want your boiler to be as eco-friendly as possible? These are all questions to be asking yourself when the time comes for a boiler replacement.

- ErP efficiency rating.
Every boiler is assigned an ErP rating, which highlights how effective and efficient they are when using energy to heat your home and water. Nowadays, there are laws in place for how efficient boilers must be. So, if you have an ancient boiler in your home, the chances are it runs far less efficiently – wasting energy and costing you money!
Always be sure to opt for a boiler with at least an A rating, if you want to minimise your energy bills and have a warm home.
- Kilowatts.
The bigger or more spacious your home is, the higher your boilers heating output will need to be. To find the best boilers in terms of power, consider the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in your home and the size of your family. If your boiler isn’t powerful enough to warm up all your radiators or provide enough hot water for everyone’s showers, you risk being chilly during the colder months.
