I think it is all I can go on about recently – the fact that we will soon be searching for somewhere new, whether we decide to stay in the village or move elsewhere. Thanks to our expanding family, our house is no longer big enough for our needs and the lack of storage with two kids is quite frustrating as is the super tiny kitchen. We’ve written down a list of the must haves we want for a new house and whilst some may be negotiable, some really aren’t and are actually needed. What sort of things do you require from a new house?
Enough Bedrooms
Currently we live in a two bedroom property. Ideally we would like a four bed property so we can also have guests to stay but we will consider a three bed if the rooms are large enough. Jack’s room here is tiny so there is no way Olivia could move into there as well hence the need to move.
Plenty Of Storage
The only storage we really have is our garage, the hallway closet and the cupboard in Jack’s room where the boiler used to be. All are full – Jack’s room has his toys and stuff, the hallway closet has the pushchair, car seat, golf clubs and clothes and shoes and the garage has the big items that we can’t fit in here right now or that we are storing for the new house. When we move, storage is a must.
Nice Decor
It sounds silly as we’d obviously be adding our own touches but I want to go in and see some nice decor before we choose the property – it gives you an idea of what can be done with it. We’ve currently got a lovely ceiling light in our dining room so a property with ceiling lights would definitely be something I’d consider.
A Large Kitchen
My kitchen is super tiny. The cupboards and kitchen counters are super small and we barely have room for our appliances let alone room to prepare and cook. I want a dishwasher and a fridge freezer when we move and plenty of space to move around when cooking so a large kitchen is a non negotiable.
A Nice Garden
Our garden is tiny, on a slope. There is a wall at the end that is quite precarious and it just isn’t a pleasant garden at all – I’m reluctant to let the kids play in it and we’ve done what we can with it but we refuse to spend money on something if we aren’t going to stay here for a long. A nice big garden that the kids can play in is a must.
A Home Office
With me working from home and Steve potentially going to be studying again, we need a dedicated place to work and study so a room that we can use as a dedicated home office or study is a must. Of course, I will also be storing my books in there so it will also be a library too!
Perhaps though if I managed to achieve my dreams of growing my business, I may end up with my own offices and staff and be able to utilise access control.
