Home Plans // Kitchen Declutter

In collaboration

I hit the age of 27 on Sunday and I’ve finally got to that stage in my life where I am really not sure what I want when it comes to birthdays and Christmas. Steve, the kids, mum and my parents in law managed to get it so right (books, a meal out, candles and getting my hair done) but I was so unsure of what I actually wanted this year, nothing sprang to mind.

We’ve been talking a lot recently about moving house now that Olivia has been born. We want a three bedroom house for us all once Olivia is a few months older and we are thinking of moving her into her own room – right now Jack’s room is super tiny and she would struggle to move into there – and to be fair, he has his own space and it isn’t fair to take that away from him.

Since we’ve been thinking about moving, I’ve also been thinking about what things I want from a new house and what new things I can buy and what old things I can declutter. I really want a space for a home office if possible where I have limited distractions – but I know this may be a big ask. One of my main things I want to do is completely declutter our kitchen – get rid of the cheap items we bought when we moved into our first place seven years ago and refresh it all completely. We did get given some lovely expensive tableware and cutlery by Steve’s grandad which I will definitely be keeping but for the stop gap stuff that we still seem to have after all this time? I want to get rid.

I’ve been looking at the glassware available on the House of Fraser website to give me some ideas of what items I want. I often have friends round for dinner and drinks and I’ve lost count of how many glasses have been broken over the years – my sets are completely mismatched now and I need to get rid and start over again – I could definitely do with some more wine glasses and tumblers – my sets seem to be ever decreasing!

I also want to get rid of any equipment we barely use. Our food processor, slow cooker,  sandwich maker and grill all get used on a regular basis but other items such as the spiraliser and pressure cooker really don’t and are taking up valuable space in our kitchen. With us planning to move, I want to make the move as stress free and as easy as possible and that means getting rid of items we know we won’t use!

Do you ever have a proper declutter before moving home? What are the items you never use in your kitchen or would most like to replace?
