Tis the season where we will all be entertaining. The festive season sees many dinner parties, family gatherings, meals out and Christmas parties and it’s tough to decide just what to put on the menus for these occasions.
Whether you like a tipple or are teetotal, whether you’re a meat eater or a vegetarian, there are a variety of fantastic food and drinks that you can serve when entertaining this winter. I’m obviously currently pregnant so this year my tipple of choice will be a fruit juice, fizzy soft drink or non-alcoholic wine but any other year I’d definitely opt for some fizz or perhaps even a Moscow Mule for something a little different. If hosting, I’d definitely be serving these but if someone else is hosting like my in laws sometimes do, there is such a wide variety to choose from, you really are spoilt for choice!
Food choices this winter are all about the homely filling foods that we all know and love. Nothing beats a homemade soup that’s full of goodness and if you serve that to your dinner party guests, they’re bound to enjoy it. A baked Camembert never goes amiss – especially with some tasty cranberry relish – and some party food nibbles like sausage rolls, miniature Cornish pasties and pigs in blankets will always be a popular choice.
My mouth is savouring at the thought of all this food – hungry pregnant lady problems – and I’ve now got to the part of the year where my life turns just a little bit hectic. I’ve got so much going on in the next few weeks with Christmas parties, Christmas fairs, Jack’s birthday, Christmas itself and plenty of other things on the horizon too. I’m not going to lie – the thought of the food and drink on offer at these events are what’s pushing me through even though I know I am going to be totally exhausted as soon as the festive season is over!
It is probably a busy time for all of us – expensive too – especially if your child is in school and you have all the school events coming up – we have about five in the next few weeks alone! A mulled wine or Moscow Mule certainly wouldn’t go amiss to get us through those events, would they?
Have you got much planned for this winter? What are your favourite foods and drinks to serve when the weather turns a little colder?
