I don’t know many people who don’t like pizza…except for maybe my Dad. Everyone else I know absolutely adores the Italian dish, whether they get a takeaway pizza or make it for themselves. But how exactly do you make the perfect pizza? Surely its subjective to the person making it? I love mushrooms on mine but Steve isn’t so keen – he likes them hot but I don’t do spicy. Jack is happy with a plain margherita and nothing else – so how on earth can you make the perfect pizza?
Simply put..we’ve started making our own and we do one for each so we can all have what we enjoy. Steve gets the heat he craves, I get the veggies that I want and Jack can have his plain pizza until he is blue in the face. But making the pizza itself comes with so many questions. How big do you want to make it? What pizza sauce is the best – will you have a go at making your own or try one of the most popular pizza sauce brands?
I never used to make pizza, preferring to buy in from the supermarket or one of the many delivery outlets in my area. I often walked past the pizza sauce brands in the supermarket aisles and thought about making my own but never really considered it properly until we found ourselves unable to choose a pizza for us all to enjoy from one of our favourite delivery places. Instead of spending a lot of money on choosing a pizza that we’d all be happy with or ordering three smaller ones so we could all have the one we enjoy, it makes so much more sense to make it for ourselves – its healthier for us and much cheaper too.
Since starting to make my own, I’ve been experimenting with different ingredients and different flavours – some have worked and some haven’t. I’ve tried making my own sauces and used some of the prestigious pizza sauces available on the market too, trying to find the perfect pizza for me. So far, they have all been pretty perfect but perhaps one day I will find one that I like the most. Until then I am enjoying trying and am much happier to take a stroll in my local supermarket for the ingredients than picking up the phone to get one delivered. Better for my wallet and my waistline.
Do you make your own pizzas? What do you like to put on them and what pizza sauces would you recommend?
