5 Ways To Help The Environment

We really need to start looking after our environment a lot more. Here are five ways that you can help.

Opt for a low emission car

We all know how car fumes can affect our environment so opting for a car that uses low co2 is a way of protecting the environment a little more if you have to use a car. If you don’t have the budget to buy a car or you don’t need to use a car all the time, perhaps lease cars with low emissions would be the better option for you.

Low emission cars are definitely becoming more popular as people seek to change up their lifestyle and become more conscious of what is going on around them. There are plenty of manufacturers now who are producing low emission cars, knowing that they are wanted.

Cars that product higher emission damage the environment a whole lot more so armed with that knowledge, consumers are answering with their feet and their wallets. It is definitely something we will be considering when we next buy a car – we know of a few people who have already made the switch and have no regrets.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future when it comes to low co2 cars – I believe they will become ever more prominent as the months and years go by and will eventually overtake sales of regular cars. With so many manufacturers getting behind low emission cars and putting them out on the market, there is so much promise for them and I am happy – every little helps when it comes to protecting the environment! With more and more manufacturers getting on board and producing these cars, hopefully we will see a time where low emission cars are the norm and the higher CO2 emitting cars start to disappear.

Recycle, recycle, recycle

I’ve always recycled but I am definitely making more effort now and even have a section clear in my kitchen where I place my recyclable packaging before taking it out to the bins. I do sometimes take things one at a time but I find it much easier and much more helpful to take it out when the inside recycling box is full and separate into the right boxes.

I do tend to have a lot of cardboard and plastic every fortnight due to deliveries and whatnot so I make an effort to ensure it all goes out – I sometimes even have some left over after my bins are full. If that is the case, I either put them outside once the bins have been emptied or I take them to a local recycling centre when we are heading that way.

Walk

If you don’t have a need for a car, walk it. I walk Jack to school and back every single day (unless we need to rush off somewhere) and not only is it good for my health, we also aren’t using our non low emission car for a ten minute walk. Some parents do and that’s up to them but I don’t see the point when it’s just up the road.

Don’t waste water

It’s all too easy to do without realising. Letting the tap run whilst you brush your teeth, putting a wash load on and then forgetting to pull it out so you then end up rewashing it. All of these things waste water and you don’t really realise how much you are wasting until its too late. Much as all you can eat buffets say you can take as much as you want but don’t waste it, the same should be said for water. Only use what you need to use, don’t waste it as it isn’t good for the environment and it isn’t good for your wallet either.

Turn off electrical appliances and lights

I am a big one for this. I always make sure lights are turned off and all electrical appliances that can be turned off (unlike the freezer and fridge) are switched off whenever they aren’t in use and especially when we go out. Same for the heating. I will admit that sometimes we forget – Jack likes the landing light on when he goes to bed but is fine with it being off once he’s asleep. We try to remember to turn it off as soon as he goes to sleep in order to conserve energy but sometimes we don’t realise for a couple of hours – what a waste of energy!

It always irks me when I go past a shop or an office that is closed for the evening, the cleaners have gone home and all the lights and electricals are on – that must waste so much energy, money and be so harmful in the long run to the environment!
