Summer vacationing with kids can be challenging, but you don’t have to wait until they’re older to travel. Traveling with the kids creates memories and strong family bonds. Here are six tips to help make your summer vacation with the kids a success.
1. Plan Ahead
Never take off on holiday during the summer without reservations. Book accommodations and car rentals ahead. If you’re going abroad, renting an RVcamper is a good way to explore European destinations with kids. Or pick one place to be your home base and plan short road trips from there.
If you’re planning a road trip, a camper is perfect for families. Map out your route and choose family-friendly campgrounds. If you opt to travel by car, research good pit stops along the way such as parks where kids can release pent up energy. Pack plenty of non-sugary snacks and car-friendly activities to keep them occupied.
2. Prepare Kids for the Trip
Get kids excited about the trip with pictures, brochures, and conversation. Let older kids help with research on hotels, activities, places to eat, and things to do.
3. Pick the Right Accommodations
Many hotels have great perks like room service, baby-sitting, and planned programs for children. But a vacation rental with a kitchen will be convenient if you have a picky eater or a child with special dietary needs. Weigh the pros and cons and make the decision that’s best for you.

4. Take the Right Baby Gear
If you’re flying, most major airlines let you check baby gear like car seats and travel strollers for free, but it’s a good idea to check first. If you’ll be renting a car, check to see if the rental agency offers car seats. A light stroller is a good option, but a sling or backpack is preferable for lots of walking and cobbled streets in historic districts,
5. Plan a Kid-Friendly Itinerary
Unless your hotel has child care services, don’t plan an itinerary like touring lots of European churches and museums. Opt for theme parks, nature parks, and other kid-friendly activities instead.
6. Don’t Overpack
Pack as lightly as you possibly can. Diapers, baby formula, wipes, and other disposables can be bought after you reach your destination. Pack clothes made of fast-drying fabrics that can be washed and hung to dry. Leave the toys and familiar items at home. You’ll need room in your luggage for souvenirs.

Some great tips, my parents would always look at the amenities close by to wherever we were staying to make sure they didn’t need to travel far to get food, or go to the beach etc x
