5 Things To Protect While Your Family is Under Lockdown

Collaborative Post

It’s hard to believe that the UK has been under lockdown for over a month! As we pass this landmark achievement, Brits everywhere are doubling down on their blitz spirit. We’re used to having to make concessions for the greater good. Many of us remember hearing our grandparents tell us stories of rationing, air raid shelters and making do and mending. While our current sacrifice pales in comparison to theirs, it’s fair to say that we’ve all had to make sacrifices and endure losses.

Indeed, while we’re not staging protests over the lockdown like our neighbours across the pond, it’s safe to say that we’re collectively getting itchy feet.  Still, rather than bemoaning the things we can no longer do or the places we can no longer go, let’s take a moment to think about what’s important to us. And what we need to protect while we’re under lockdown…

Your mental health

Cabin fever is a very real concern for many of us, and it’s up to us to take steps to safeguard our mental health. Safeguard your wellbeing by;

  • Eating a healthy diet packed with fresh veggies and fruits. Diet can impact mental health!
  • Making sure you get the daily dose of fresh air and sunshine you’re allowed under government guidelines.
  • Trying to exercise as much as possible (even without the gym).
  • Making sure you have a space in your home where you can go when you need solitude.
  • Ensuring that you always have something to look forward to (even if it’s just something good on TV).

Your kids’ wellbeing

To look after a child well, you need to first look after yourself. It’s like those in-flight safety videos airlines play- you need to put your own safety mask on before helping your kids. Look after your own wellbeing and you’re better placed to take care of your kids’. The good news is that there are lots of ways in which you can safeguard your kids health and wellbeing without smothering them. Check out this post where we provide some ideas.

Your car

If you’re not using your car right now, you need to take steps to protect it so that it doesn’t develop faults later. Firstly, make sure it has a full fuel tank. Moisture can accumulate in half full tanks and this can damage your fuel injectors. Move your car off the road, and wash, wax and cover it to protect the paint.

If you were considering replacing your car, you can still do this under lockdown. You may be able to find a seller who can arrange a delivery to your home to prevent you from having to leave your home. If you’re thinking of buying on finance, check out this interest rate guide. Even if your credit is less than flawless you should still be able to get a reasonable interest rate.

Your neighbours

Now more than ever, it’s important that we rediscover our sense of community. Check in on your neighbours by leaving them a note. Many have offered to pick up medicine and groceries for vulnerable people in their area.

Our NHS

Finally, be sure to protect our NHS and help us to flatten the infection curve by adhering to social distancing protocols and doing your part to lighten the strain on our healthcare system.
