5 Things I Don’t Miss About Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a joyous occasion for many and a living hell for others – some sail through the 9 months without a care in the world with a radiant glow to boot whilst others spend their mornings throwing up with awful morning sickness. Whilst my pregnancy was definitely more smooth sailing than other people I know, here are five things I really don’t miss…

1 | Injections

I have a rare blood type which means I have to have injections throughout any pregnancies I may have. As someone who hates needles, you can imagine how much I used to dread my midwife appointments, knowing she was going to stick a needle in me for the umpteenth time.

2 | Heartburn

Heartburn during pregnancy is not as uncommon as you may think with nearly three quarters of pregnant women suffering from it by the third trimester. Whilst I managed to bypass morning sickness, I suffered badly with heartburn and indigestion pain and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else – the feeling was awful! I would be sitting there doing nothing and suddenly get a massive attack of it – for someone who had never had it before and has only had it once since, it was petrifying. Of course, I turned to my good friend Google and was searching the symptoms and potential causes, trying to cut them out.

3 | Baby Brain

Some people say baby brain is simply a phenomenon and it doesn’t exist but I certainly noticed that I was forgetting stuff and was a little more ditzy than before! I do sometimes have moments of forgetfulness but nothing like I encountered during pregnancy and I am glad its gone!

4 | Being unable to do things

Up until around 6 months, my bump was relatively small then suddenly it seemed to explode out of nowhere and I was huge! This came with some problems such as awful back pain and tiredness. However, right towards the end of my pregnancy I really struggled to do anything – I was on maternity leave and we were living with my parents – my mum was at work as were my friends, my Dad is elderly and Steve had to have an operation which left him unable to walk or drive until a few days before my due date – this meant that I couldn’t really go out much. I did go out once on my own and my back gave way – luckily I was right by my Nan’s house but the thought of something happening when I was on my own terrified me so I stayed in pretty much 24/7 for the final few weeks.

5|  The looks

Whilst Jack may not have been planned, we were very proud to be pregnant despite my young age – I was 21 so not exactly really young and it was something we had spoken about for the future, it just happened quicker than we expected. That didn’t stop the sneers and looks, the whispers. I actually expected some from the village I lived in but on the whole, they were very supportive – the community is very family minded so relish a new addition to the village – but I certainly noticed looks when I was working behind the till at work. I may occasionally get a look now but the engagement ring seems to placate most people..

  1. Morning sickness, the word morning sickness was a joke, I had it 24/7. Each day until I was in labour!! Oh and being the size of a short whale, but it was twins, so both were part and parcel.

  2. I agree on many of these things – I found it hard and not that enjoyable to be honest (of course I was grateful for being pregnant) but I suffered with bad morning sickness, backache and sciatica as well as dizzy spells and I didn't like being fit and active and then becoming very tired quickly. I don't miss those things at all

  3. Being clinically asleep all the time was awful, as was baby brain. Sometimes I miss being pregnant but then all those night spent eating tums like candy return to the forefront on my memory.

  4. Not something I can relate too hun but all of those things ive heard friends mention, alot! xx
    lots of love Beautyqueenuk xx
