A lot of people have this problem, and there are a lot of factors that can contribute to this overall so you need to work out which one, or which ones are getting in your way. We’re not saying that it’s going to be an easy process, and we’re not saying that you’re going to magically be able to lose weight overnight if you make these changes, but they will help. Remember, weight loss is a process, and one that you have got to dedicate yourself to if you want to achieve.

Metabolism

Your metabolism is one of the defining factors in how effectively you can lose weight. Some people have a fast metabolism which means that their body burns the calories from the food consumed at a much faster rate than those who have a slow metabolism. Genetics are a huge factor in this, but there are things that you can do to kick start your metabolism and get it working faster. For example, exercise is great for getting it started as the blood is pumping through your body, and your body is pumped up essentially. There are weight loss products to boost your metabolism that you can also try if you are finding that other methods are not working, but you will need to speak to a professional before you take any.

Another thing that you can do is eat at regular intervals to ensure that there is not too much pressure on your metabolism. Try to keep in mind that if your body feels as though it’s starving, it will go into starvation mode which means that it will burn less calories in order to preserve the energy that you do have. So, starving is never a solution for weight loss, especially if you want your metabolism to work with you rather than against you.

Stress

A lot of people think that stress is bad for you simply because it causes you so much mental hardship. While that is a huge problem and one that needs to be addressed, if you are experiencing excessive levels of stress, it can do more than that. It can manifest into physical symptoms, making your life ten times harder. In relation to weight loss, stress can stop you losing weight by increasing the levels of cortisol which will essentially put your body in fight or flight. At that point, weight loss is the last thing your body is concerned with.

So, to avoid this, the best thing that you can do is manage your stress. Yes, we understand that this is easier said than done, but it’s important that you get it done either way. Understand your stress triggers and try to avoid them as much as you can, look into breathing techniques for when you are stressed, as well as so much more.

Yo-Yo Dieting

This is another common one that people often forget about. If you are yo-yo dieting, which means that you are constantly on and off the same or different diets, your body is not going to respond well to this. It doesn’t like the constant changes, it can’t keep up with it, and a lot of these diets are bad for you anyway.

If you want to pick a diet, make sure that you are committed and that you are sticking to it. While it might be tough, they’re all going to be tough in their own way because losing weight is hard, but you have to be willing to work through it. Speak to a nutritionist or another expert if you think that you need help deciding what the best way for you to diet is going to be.

Alcohol And Other Bad Habits

We bet that you didn’t realize just how detrimental alcohol and other bad habits can be to your weight loss journey. You might think that if you are good all week with exercise, your diet and your general lifestyle that a night of drinking and smoking isn’t going to harm you, right? Wrong. Of course it will. Many people don’t see the calories in alcohol which are actually extremely high, and they seem to forget that it’s full of chemicals, and that cigarettes are full of harmful substances. These things are going to dramatically impact your weight loss journey, and you need to consider cutting them out, or at the very least, cutting them down.

If you find yourself struggling, then book in to see a professional, as they will be able to provide you with the assistance and support that you need.

Medical Issues

The final thing that we want to think about are medical issues. There are cases in which people struggle with their weight loss due to the fact that they have medical conditions which can cause problems within the body. For example, an underactive thyroid has been known to cause weight gain and prevent weight loss.

At the end of the day, if you are someone who wants to lose weight and you are struggling, the best thing that you can do is work out why. Now that we have been through some of the things that could be holding you back, it’s time to make some changes to the way that you have been doing things. Take it one change at a time, and give your body the time it needs to adjust so that you can see if it’s having any impact. If not, move onto the next one. Something will work, and if it doesn’t and you’re worried, you should book an appointment with your doctor to see if there is anything else going on.
