1. Prescription sunglasses.
Nothing says a beach day like slipping on a pair of cool, protective shades. If you wear glasses though, it can be quite a struggle of choosing between clear vision and sun protection. This is where prescription sunglasses can come to the rescue. You get to be able to see while protecting your eyes at the same time, which means that reading your book under a beach umbrella becomes so much easier. You also don’t crinkle up your forehead all the time to make yourself look wrinkly.
2. A decent hat.
A wide-brimmed hat is both a fashion statement for the beach and a skin saver. Not only will it keep your face shaded, but your ears and your neck will be shaded too. Caps are great, but they don’t give you the same well-rounded protection. You should look out for hats that are made from breathable materials such as straw or cotton. If you’re going for a glamorous vibe, a floppy brim adds drama and a more Panama style hat gives you a chic and classic beach look, just make sure that it fits snugly enough to stay put in the breeze.
3. A beach cover up.
If you want to stay stylish on the beach but you don’t want to be burned in the sun, then make sure that you have a cover up to go over your swimwear. Cover ups come in all styles, from the flowing caftans and sarongs to oversight button down shirts. You can even get a simple tunic to pull over your bikini. Choose one that feels light and breezy but gives you more than enough coverage to walk around comfortably.
4. Sandals.
A good pair of sandals is essential for a beach trip. You need something easy to slip on and off, waterproof, and comfortable enough for long walks along the shoreline. You also want to be able to protect your feet from hot sand. Try to avoid anything that’s too fiddly with straps or buckles, but go for some simple sliders, espadrilles, or flip flops. As long as they have decent arch support, you’re covered.
5. A light cardigan.
Even the sunniest of days can turn breezy as the afternoon starts to fade. With a light cardigan or even a wrap, you’ll be able to have a transitional piece ready for when the wind picks up. Choose something soft and breathable, like a cotton blend or a breathable knit. It won’t feel too warm, but it adds a touch of warmth when needed.
