3 Ways To Save Money On Your Wedding

Collaborative Post

Are you currently in the process of planning your wedding? Well, as you are no doubt discovering, the wedding industry is big business, and with the cost of a UK wedding now averaging £30k, many people are looking at ways that they can reduce those costs. If that’s you, then do read on as today we are sharing with you 3 ways to save money on your wedding.

Whilst many of us do not want to compromise on some of the major expenses, from dresses to honeymoons, most of us would be happy to cut a few costs elsewhere and save money. Which is where we come in, as these are the 3 places that we would suggest that you look.

Save money by creating your own stationery

The cost of stationery can really add up if you choose to send Save the Date notes out, formal invitations and then thank you cards. You will also be looking at table plans and place cards for your reception. It is actually a fair bit of stationery once you list it all down like that, which is why we would recommend looking at alternatives.

In the days of social media and the internet, can the Save the Date be a digital message instead? Could you create your own online wedding invitations, either using an online template or by hand if you enjoy getting crafty and have beautiful handwriting?

Think about what you want for your wedding day and then for the table plans and place cards you can really have some fun around your theming. If you are Marvel fans, you could use cut up comics, posters and printables in place of your stationery. If you are naming after flowers and fauna, you could use wildflowers to designate the tables. You get the idea, just take the time to play around with your themes and get creative with this one.

Save money by changing the date

This one is surprisingly simple to do. Just change the date that you are getting married.

Getting married on a day other than a Saturday is likely to instantly and significantly reduce your costs. You should also avoid peak season, such as the summer time, as this will again bring your costs down.

Save money by reducing the guest list

This one is such a controversial one, but it also represents by far the greatest savings that can be made.

Cutting your guest list can mean that your venue hire costs decrease and your food and drink costs certainly reduce. This all represents a huge saving, but we appreciate that cutting that list down is not always easy to do.

You could try being strict and each cutting it by a certain percentage. Or perhaps you could go really small and intimate with just close family surrounding you. You could go for a small wedding ceremony and reception, but then throw a big party later on to celebrate with all friends and family. This will still be a cheaper option as hiring a venue for a party is often cheaper than hiring one for a wedding and you are not likely to run into such high food and drink costs.
