Christmas has only just been and gone but Valentines Day is fast approaching. Greetings card companies and supermarkets will soon be putting out their Valentines selections (I should know, I work in one) and cutesy teddies and boxes of chocolates will quickly adorn our high street.
Obviously, having Jack limits our ability to do many things nowadays. We can’t just up and leave on a whim. However, now that Jack is 1, we are more comfortable about the possibility of leaving him overnight with either set of grandparents. We won’t be doing it this year due to lack of funds but previous years, including this one, we have discussed the possibility of perhaps renting out a cottage to ourselves for the day of love. We rented out a little farmhouse cottage a couple of February’s ago just after Valentines Day for a family friends christening and the atmosphere was fantastic. Of course, I’ve been to Rome; perhaps one of the most romantic cities on Earth but I just imagine a weekend in a cottage to be so relaxing: snuggling in front of an open fire, no technology to bother you, almost utter silence. I love this story on ABC News of two 100 year olds from New Jersey still celebrating Valentines Day – how sweet! Some people say it is too commercialised and I don’t disagree – people will make a commodity out of anything – however, I love the day because it is a day where you can truly devote all of your time to each other.

Oh god I work in a card shop too and we are meant to be getting our Valentines cards in on Wednesday! I personally don't do anything for Valentines, it doesn't appeal to me also it's my bf's birthday the next day so we just do something for that instead. I do like the idea of spending a few nights at a cosy cottage though 🙂 x
