After a slow but steady start, I seem to be flying through my challenge now. Whether I’ll complete it will remain to be seen (it does seem almost impossible, I’ve got 6 months to read 103…I’ve managed 22 in the last six…).
Here are the books I’ve recently read and a few thoughts on them:
15. Three Weeks to Say Goodbye

Can I just say WOW. This book was chosen by another member of the Kindle Book Club I happen to be a part of and on first glance, I thought I was not going to like this book. A couple of pages in and I was hooked. It is very rare that a book can evoke such a range of feelings within me and as a mum myself, I felt for Jack and Melissa. Definitely worth reading, amazing stuff!
16.Girl on the Landing

My pick for Alex’s A Blogging Good Read. I was most wary of starting this book out of the three as I wasn’t sure whether it was my kind of thing – which is exactly why I picked it – I then had to read it! It is definitely a slow burner but once you get into the main part of the novel, you’ll find yourself more and more intrigued.
17. Promise Me This

I have always been fascinated by the Titanic so when I saw this ebook on Amazon for the bargain price of nothing(!), I couldn’t resist. I read this when we went away to Camber Sands for a couple of days and it took me about five hours in all- I loved the characters, how the story was put together. This book is incredibly well written and a must read for anyone interested in stories of the Titanic.

Firstly, how beautiful is this cover? The cover model slightly reminds me of Karen Gillan from Doctor Who, what do you think? I have been reluctant to lend this book out after finishing it as I’m scared someone will ruin the cover! How sad is that? I had never read an Eva Ibbotson book before but had been recommended them time and time again so I was intrigued to see what she was like. I liked the book immensely although I held an intense hatred for one character – a nasty,evil, spiteful woman. I loved Anna’s character though and I’m planning to read more books by the author sometime soon.
19. Handle with Care: A Novel

Char’s pick and a book I was a little unsure about. The premise is that a mother has to state in court that she wishes her child had never been born. No matter what the situation was, I could never say something like that! I enjoyed the book although I felt that some characters could have been built on and the ending was rushed and too obvious. This is the first Jodi Picoult book I’ve actually managed to finish though so at least that’s a start!
20. The Brandy of the Damned

Sent to me for review purposes by another member of my Kindle Book Club (her partner is the author) was this book. I loved it – it had three main characters travelling around the country in a van, years after their band broke up. Each chapter was told by one of the main characters, rotating each time. I loved the back story and the way the story surprised me. Review coming soon.
21. The Woman in Black

We all know the premise behind Woman In Black. I’ve had the book on my shelves for a while and although never having seen the theatre production, I watched the film recently and thought it would be a good opportunity to compare the two. DON’T. Although the film is great, they sure do miss out/change a lot of things from the novel. However, as I went in to reading the book with expectations of the film, I was pleasantly surprised to how different the book actually was. Well worth a read.
22. Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy

Yes, I fell victim to the worldwide hype and downloaded 50 Shades to my Kindle. Was I unimpressed? No. Was I blown away? No. I’m sorry, it is okay as a book but it is nowhere near as fantastic as everyone is lauding it to be. I think that sometimes there was a little too much sex and some of the book was a little unrealistic but the book is worth checking out if you want to see what all the fuss is about.

I've been reading the 'Game of Thrones' series, im four books in and loving it!
I also recently read 'Rapture' by Liz Jensen which is an apocolyptic novel, also very good.

I've recently won a kindle so I'm reading lots at the moment. I also gave in and read fifty shades of grey! I'm now reading vanishing point. Game of thrones is next on my list! (as are about 500 others lol!)

I'm currently reading Magic Flutes by Eva Ibbotson and i LOVE it. Definitely recommend it once you've read the rest (maybe it's one to write down rather than buy/download now!!
