Are you preparing for your special day? Congratulations are in order! Your wedding day is one of the most memorable days of your life and one that comes around fast. The sooner you start planning your wedding, the less stressful it can be. Below we have put together ten tips for you to think about when planning your wedding day.
Are you choosing the right cake?
If chosen correctly, your cake can be a centrepiece for your wedding. Standing pride of place in your wedding venue, you are bound to be having plenty of photos taken in front of it as well as when you both cut it for the first time. How it looks is important, but how it tastes is also just as important. Will you have different flavoured layers to cater to different tastebuds, or will you just go for one flavour? Either way, it’s your special day so do what you think is best.
Will you get married abroad or in your country?
This is one of the first things you should decide when planning your wedding. Getting married abroad can mean you get beautiful hot weather, but with potentially fewer guests. Especially as the further afield you go, the more time off your guests will need. Or, will you choose to go local and brave the weather that your country has? But be able to have more guests as they won’t have to travel further afield. Neither is wrong, do what is best for you as this is your day; it doesn’t matter what others think. Who will be coming to your wedding?
I’ve mentioned it above and will repeat it; a wedding day is your special day, not anybody else’s! It costs enough as it is, let alone having to invite people you may not want there. This is why you should be strict on your invites and ask people who you really want there. Don’t invite friends of friends or family members which you haven’t seen for years. Yes, a couple of people may be offended but does that matter if you never see them, they will soon get over it.
What will you do for entertainment?
Some venues will provide a little entertainment on the day, but it is down to you to organise any extras, and it is important to do so. Will you have a DJ or opt for a Spotify playlist with songs that you have already planned? Photo booths can be great as you can store the photos for future memories. A couple of casino table can give guests something different to do on the day. All these things can cost and add to your budget, which is why you should prepare as soon as possible.
Shopping for your wedding dress
Of course, this is the most important thing! The sooner you get your wedding dress, the more flexible you can be. Most wedding dress shops are made to order, meaning they will need a few months to make your dress once you decide which one to go for. If you leave it to late, you may have to choose from dresses which are already in stock and ready to go. Neither is wrong, just the sooner you decide, the more options you may have.
Wear your shoes in
Let face it; there is nothing worse than have a sore foot! For both men and woman, how many times have you been out for the day wearing a new pair of shoes which are constantly rubbing because you haven’t worn them in? It extremely painful and something you want to avoid before your special day. On your big day, you will be on your feet constantly, so it is advisable that a couple of weeks before you start to break them in so you can be pain-free on your special day.
Who will be your photographer?
Your photographer is another thing that is extremely important on your big day. These photos will be around forever so you will want to make sure you have an excellent photographer to capture every second of the day. Photographer can be expensive, but the last thing you want is a blurry photo of your first kiss or no picture at all of your first dance. Who your bridesmaids will be and their dresses?
As soon as you start planning your wedding, in the back of your mind will be who you are going to choose to be your bridesmaids? And how many you are going to have. The more you have, the more bridesmaid dresses you will have to purchase. When choosing their dresses, you will want to think about the colour scheme of the wedding as you will match their attire for this. You also want to think about their body shape and choose a dress that suits all – this can be hard to achieve.
Where will you be going for your honeymoon?
When planning your wedding day, you will also want to consider where you will be going on your honeymoon. A honeymoon costs, so you will want to make sure you include it within the budget. For your honeymoon, you can choose to go anywhere if it’s special. Whether you opt for a cruise, two weeks in the Maldives or a city break, do what you and your partner love! Also, when booking make sure you let them know it’s your honeymoon as they are more likely to upgrade you for free this way.
Getting your invites out
Don’t forget to let your guests know they are invited to the wedding! If you are planning on going abroad, it’s best to do this sooner rather than later so that they can make plans. A lot of people like to send out a save the date first to make guests aware of their wedding and then nearer the time send another invite out to let them know more information about your wedding. Get creative and design your own invites. Once you start sending these out, you can get excited for planning the rest of the wedding.
