I’ve been reading so much recently, it’s crazy! I only shared my Recent Reads #3 post the other day and yet I am here with yet another instalment. So what have I been reading? I had to give this one a read after having read the Fifty Shades trilogy. To be honest, I’m not too sure what to think of it. Some of it was so similar to the first book that I felt it really didn’t need repeating even if it was Christian’s version of the story but at other times, it felt like a completely different story altogether. Not sure at all.
POINT HORROR: AMNESIA BY SINCLAIR SMITH
Again, I wanted to relive my childhood and the very lovely Rachel aka BeautyQueenUK swapped with me so I could read this. I read this within an hour and a half, it was a good read but not the best Point Horror I’ve ever read.
RETURN TO BLUEBELL HILL BY REBECCA PUGH
Written by the blogger behind Becca’s Books, this is a lovely read which I reviewed here. I look forward to seeing more from Rebecca in the future.
This was a quick read – an interesting cosy mystery that was inoffensive and kept me intrigued. I read this on the drive home from the Isle of Wight and finished it before I got home.
THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY BY PATRICIA HIGHSMITH
A book that I had been meaning to read for years, I only got round to reading it after seeing it on my Aunt’s bookshelf at her flat in the Isle of Wight. Luckily she was coming to visit my Nan after we got back as I didn’t finish it until the week after but I’m glad I read it, it was a good read – but the film seemed so different to the book in many ways!
NEMESIS BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
Starting off my Agatha month with a Miss Marple story, this was an interesting read. Having watched the TV dramatisation, I was struck by how different they were – the characters from the book were changed dramatically on screen, some were missing altogether, others were added in. It was an okay read but nowhere near my favourite by the author.
CAT AMONG THE PIGEONS BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
One of my favourite Agatha Christie novels of all time, and certainly one of my favourite Poirot’s despite how late he arrives in the story, this re-read was great for me, revisiting an old story that I know and love.
MISS MARPLE’S FINAL CASES BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
I’ve always been a bigger fan of Poirot than Miss Marple but I don’t mind reading her stories. These were interesting but I couldn’t help but feel that I had read some of them before in full length novels. An easy read nonetheless.
CROOKED HOUSE BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
I wasn’t particularly drawn into this one, it all seemed rather forced and I worked out the culprit long before the end. Easy read.
THE 13 PROBLEMS BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
I absolutely LOVED this book. Miss Marple and her acquaintances to discuss 13 problems – to see if anyone can solve them. Of course, Miss Marple always comes out on top and no one can understand how the little old lady does it. A great read.
WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
Having seen the film of the same featuring Charles Laughton and Marlene Dietrich from 1957, I was eager to finally read the story that inspired it. It was exactly as I remembered it and was a fantastic read – I recommend it!
THE MYSTERY OF THE BLUE TRAIN BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
I remember watching the TV adaptation of this a few years back so I was keen to read it – thankfully they kept pretty close to the story. Despite knowing the culprit from the outset, this was an enjoyable read.
DEATH IN THE CLOUDS BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
I went into this with no expectations at all – I have never seen this dramatised although it is probably out there if I look hard enough – and I hadn’t read the book before. I was pleasantly surprised. Agatha is my favourite author but sometimes her books are a little too easy to guess, other times they are nigh on impossible. I did originally suspect the culprit but with Agatha’s clever writing and twists, I was soon thrown off their trail. Shows you should stick with your original instinct, though!
AND THEN, I DIED BY MAY SAGE
This was an interesting debut novel from May Sage. I found this to be a gripping and intense thriller with just the right balance of mystery and romance. Definitely worth checking out.

I’ve not read any of these! The Grey one really doesn’t appeal to me; I think she’s a complete charlatan of a “writer.”
I was just thinking about Point Horror books the other day though; I loved them when I was a teenager, and the book I’m reading at the momoent (for Mumsnet Book Club) is like a grown up Point Horror… in my head, at least!

wow you have been reading a lot! I actually won 5 books this week so that will give me incentive to read outside my comfort zone. I tend to only read books from tried and tested authors which means I am probably missing out on a lot. Do Agatha Christie books need to be read in a specific order? Which one would you recommend I try? thanks.
