I mentioned back in March here that I would be attending the Britmums Live event this summer, thanks to my lovely sponsors Silent Night. They are one of those brands that everyone knows as everyone always needs a bed and a mattress! It has been Allergy Awareness Week this week, ending at the end of today and although my families allergies are perhaps not as severe as others, I do think it is important to highlight these. The world does seem to be quite considerate when it comes to the more common allergies but what about for those whose allergies aren’t as common?
In my immediate family, our allergies range from hayfever to dust to gluten. Steve’s family also have a variety of allergies – his cousin has an extremely severe nut allergy, so much so that she can’t even be near a nut.
I think some people don’t realise how serious some allergies can be and as a parent, I am terrified of Jack ever developing an allergy to something. Of course, parents who have children with allergies do find ways of coping but just to know that one little thing could set them off is absolutely terrifying for me. Every time we try Jack on a new food or drink, I am constantly on tenterhooks, worrying that something may end up reacting with him. Having watched my family, I’ve seen how tough living with a food allergy can be.
Myself and Steve both also suffer with asthma and dust mites can easily set this off – luckily, Silent Night offer a range of anti-allergy beds and mattresses – and since our bed is rubbish quality, we will definitely be investing in a new one in the future…why not choose one of their range?
Do you suffer from any allergies in your family? How severe are they and how do you cope with them? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

It's scary isn' it? My mum is one of those 'allergic to everything' types: mushrooms, nickel, hair dye … I grew up watching her burst into eczema over anything. :') I have allergic rhinitis, ridiculous hayfever, milk, mushroom, latex, nylon, and penacillin allergies. Suprisingly, we didnt expect my nephew to have anything – he has a milk allergy too. It's so scary on a baby.
Terrified for any kids I have – my fiance is allergic to bee and wasp stings. Poor things are doomed! 😛
Oh no 🙁 Yeah, it is terrifying xx
