Private tutors are not something I thought about until Jack properly entered the education system this year. I have seen more and more of my friends making use of private tutors for themselves, some for their children and it intrigued me enough to look into it. At the moment I am happy with Jack’s progress. He may only just be starting out on his school journey but he seems to be progressing and advancing well.
Taking a look at the Tutora website, I was happy to see that you could make specifications for what you required. You could input the subject you required tutoring in and your postcode to filter the relevant results. You can also ‘browse cities’ to see if there are any tutors in nearby cities to you. Nearly all my nearby cities are covered which is great to know.
Despite me not wanting to worry about Jack yet, there are certain things that I would be happy to get tutored on to brush up my knowledge. I decided to filter results for my local city of St Albans and decided not to filter the subjects to see what tutors and subjects actually came up.
Now French is something I’ve been meaning to brush up on ever since I made the decision to drop the subject at the end of Year 9. I like to say I don’t have regrets but I do wish I had taken French instead of Geography now and gained my full GCSE rather than the half a GCSE I have from Year 9 (I was in the top group who did half GCSE’s in both French and German). Hindsight is a wonderful thing however.
It was interesting to see just how close a French tutor was to me and everything else I could have needed to know. Once you’ve searched for your relevant city or subject, you will see those suited listed below. Their listing tells you their name, location, what they tutor in and a little bit about them. You can also see what levels of the subject they go up to (for instance Asia above tutors up to A-Level), their rate per hour, distance away from you and also how quick they respond. There is also the option to view their profile should you be interested in finding out more about them.
Once you click onto a profile, it tells you the tutors qualifications for tutoring, how far they are willing to travel and also there is the option to message them to discuss this further. I think this is great as you get all the information you could possibly need for choosing a tutor right there at your fingertips, just a few clicks away.

I’m definitely considering becoming a student and brushing up on a few things – I think it would definitely be beneficial to me. You can sign up as a student at the bottom of the website or even as a tutor if you believe you have the skills.
