Needing More Space | Home

In collaboration with Panasonic

Do you ever find yourself scanning the property pages of your local paper or spending hours on websites that show houses to rent? I know I do. We want to upgrade to a bigger house but on our budget, that isn’t necessarily possible. We’ve found a few places we like that we can afford but who knows whether we will get them?

Why do we want to move? Simply put..we need more space.
Although our living room and bedrooms are a decent size, our kitchen and amount of storage are not. With a toddler and a plan to add more to the family, we definitely need an extra bedroom or two plus some place to store all our stuff – which never seems to go down, despite always decluttering! I also work from our dining room which means constantly being disrupted by Jack and Steve – I need my own space so I can concentrate and maybe, just maybe, then my career will flourish.
Our main issue is definitely lack of kitchen space though. We have a tiny under the counter fridge with a huge chest freezer residing in the dining room as there is just no room for fridge freezers in our kitchen due to overhead cupboards. Despite there being a number of overhead cupboards and a larder, they also offer limited space. Steve loves to cook and both Jack and I like to experiment with cooking – but we can barely move in the room, let alone store all the ingredients we may need. This sometimes mean we forfeit certain things in the shopping and buy them later (or store them on the counter top) but this can get very expensive.

Space will always be an issue in this house which is why we are hoping to move out at some point. However after over three years, it will probably be quite difficult to say goodbye. I’ve just got to keep remembering that I am taking steps towards my dream home, slowly but surely.

  1. You have a dining room? We have a living/dining room (with carpeting…ugh). But we should have the option to change the flooring in the future, which is a good thing. It's a step up in many ways from our previous rental (except for the significantly smaller kitchen). I totally understand your need for more space and especially for space that fits your lifestyle. Good luck in your hunt!
