My home office, put quite simply, is a total mess. That may have something to do with the fact that it isn’t really a home office at all but a desk in the corner of the dining room. When I had the desk in my bedroom, I found I kept it a lot tidier but now I really struggle to keep it as tidy as I once did. Space is very limited but I know that a messy desk can hinder productivity so I do try to clear it up – so easy to get distracted though!
What I am looking for is a great storage solution that will fit my everyday needs but also fit into the small space I have. At the moment, my papers (although filed away) are in another room, nowhere near to me when I need to pull them out quickly for something. I’m considering investing in an affordable filing cabinet and rejigging the dining room around a little so we can still fit everything in. Of course, I would need to keep this locked at all times with prying little toddler hands about! I’m considering giving my parents the spare keys for the lock just in case my keys were to go missing – anything is possible when you have children! I’m considering looking at Fast Keys.
If we do ever move from here (which is looking likely with the plan to add to our family), then I am determined to have my own office space with plenty of room for storage and it can be my little haven of productivity. I’ve got a few friends about to join me on the freelance path and I feel like my own home office would be a very positive space.
Whilst it isn’t perfect right now, it will do – as long as I keep on top of it. When it’s messy, I don’t want to do anything and I hate having to spend time doing admin stuff such as filing away when I could be doing work. If I did it as I went along, it would be so much easier. So this is my plan – I want to keep myself accountable for keeping on top of everything admin and desk related – will you make sure I stick to it?
