We all know that feeling. We wake up and know instantly that something isn’t quite right. A look at the clock confirms that the alarm didn’t go off. We’ve now got thirty minutes to get washed, dressed and get to the office. That isn’t going to happen without a helicopter and clear flight path. But we still need to make up time. Follow our quick beauty tips for when you oversleep.

The Five-Minute Shower

Before you jump in the shower, wash your face. It’s a good idea to have a face-wash for emergency situations. Or failing that, a pack of cleansing wipes. Apply your moisturiser in the usual way. You can allow it to absorb while you’re in the shower.

Throw on a shower cap and get into the shower. You don’t have time to wash your hair. All you have time for is a quick wash and rinse. If you hurry you can do this in five minutes, including drying time. You could skip the shower altogether, but then you’ll feel yucky all day.

Makeup in a Rush

Forget your usual look and focus on the basics. Cover any flaws and apply your foundation. If you look as tired as you feel, you may need a little concealer under the eyes. Sweep a little blusher or highlighter over the cheeks. It’s a good idea to have plenty of makeup brush options at your disposal. Today, opt for a wide brush as you don’t have time for specific contouring.

Complete the look with mascara and lip gloss. Take care when applying your mascara. It’s more likely to go wrong when you’re in a rush, and you don’t have time to start again. Pat any excess onto a tissue before you begin, to avoid clumping.

Just Got Out of Bed Hair

If you have long hair, try tying it back before you go to bed. This will keep it fairly neat and will save you time in the morning. Unfortunately, we don’t have a time machine, so we have to work with what we’ve got. Today is a good day to rock the ‘just got out of bed’ look. Because you have in fact just got out of bed. Go for a messy bun or a half ponytail. There’s no need to worry about escaping tendrils as it’s part of the look.

If you have short hair, then brush or comb it in the usual way. If parts are sticking up or flat, use a little water to tease them into shape. Wax is another option here. Rub a tiny amount between your fingers and work through the hair.

Clothes

Pull together anything you can find that doesn’t need ironing. Long dresses are always good when you’re in a rush. You don’t have to worry about coordinating tops and bottoms. And you can give your tights a miss if it’s warm enough.

Keep your jewellery and accessories to a minimum. Go for items that are easy to find and easy to put on. Forget fiddly earrings. Go for clip-ons instead. Big necklaces that you can pull over your head are good. Don’t struggle with clasps. And maybe a brooch that can be pinned quickly into place.

That’s it. You’re good to go. Grab your coat, bag, shoes and you’re out the door.
