Keeping Healthy Throughout Pregnancy

Pregnancy can do a funny old thing to your body. You may know that I was on Slimming World before I became pregnant and I am still trying to follow the plan as best as I can. However sometimes certain pregnancy symptoms hit and I find myself reaching for the stodgy stuff that we all know isn’t good for me – just so I can eat something.

It is obviously very important to keep healthy throughout pregnancy but it isn’t always possible to always eat the right things – both I and certain other friends of mine who are pregnant have found that we are finding it hard to get all the nutrients we need as we just can’t face the foods that contain them that we would usually eat. So how have I been combating this?

Taking Vitamins

I made sure I knew what vitamins were safe to take alongside pregnancy. I am taking my folic acid as would be expected but I also am taking certain multi vitamins in the hope that they will help to replenish some of the nutrients that I am losing elsewhere.

Drinking juice

I am drinking a lot of juice. Its the only way I can seem to face a lot of fruits. I am buying a lot of pre packaged juice but as you can imagine, the cost is adding up so I am considering picking up one of the juicers by Panasonic as I am sure it would be a handy addition to our household long after the baby has arrived and will be so useful until baby does turn up if the nausea and aversion to certain fruits continues.

Drinking plenty of water

Yes, water may not contain the nutrients of the fruit I am potentially missing out on but I am trying to drink a lot more water – staying hydrated is key. I am drinking barely any caffeine but I am hoping to have completely cut this out by the third trimester.

Eating lots of vegetables

Whilst I can’t manage fruit most of the time, I am wanting vegetables more than ever. Meals contain lots and lots of veg (even if hidden so Jack can’t tell!) and I also love going to our local carvery just so I can load my plate up with vegetables. I am definitely fulfilling the veg quotient of my diet!

Do you have any tips for keeping healthy whilst pregnant? I’d love to hear them. I am really making a conscious effort to be as healthy as I can and am always grateful for more tips.
