Myself and Steve are big believers that Jack should have a set routine when it comes to bedtime, although we do allow for deviations from time to time. Depending on what has happened during the day, Jack will generally go to bed between 7.30-8pm if Steve is on nights or off work and 8-8.30pm if Steve has been on days – just so they get to spend some daddy/son time together.
Now he is 2, he has got a lot better with his sleeping. He didn’t really sleep very well until 7 months old when we moved him into his own room after our trip to Rome. He still woke up at various times during the night but it wasn’t because he’d heard one of us turn over or cough like it was when he was in his cot in our room. He very occasionally co-sleeps but this will only be after about 4am and very rarely – he will wake up and not want to go back to sleep for whatever reason, then he falls asleep on me. I try to put him back in his cot, he kicks off, comes in with me, falls asleep straight away. I know people say that then he will try it all the time but with Jack, that simply isn’t true. I think he only wants to come in when he’s had a nightmare or has a slightly upset tummy – enough to make him want his mummy.
Recently though, he has been doing really well – going to bed at normal time and waking up around 7am. Sometimes I am as bright and sparky as he is but often, I have been up working until 2am and end up catching 40 winks when he has his naps. He is still having naps as and when he needs them but he can go days without having one if needs be. As I mentioned before, there are times when we deviate from the usual times (driving to Camber, visiting family) but this is the general gist and is what works for us.
What works for you?

We're like you Bex, we believe our little one should have a set routine and it has really worked for us. I don't think I could ever get used to him waking up during the night again! Jack is such a cutie.

Thanks Fiona!x
Our girls have a routine, but we need to get stricter on our oldest as she starts school in the fall.

I totally understand that x
We believe having some kind of bedtime routine is important too, but when they sleep at nannies it's nannies routine, lol! Lovely photos 🙂 #ShareitSundays x
