We have lived in this house for two and a bit years now and it only feels like now that we are starting to get stuff sorted round the house and the garden. Having two babies in that time has done little to help that and add being busy with work, broken ribs and various hospitalisations and you can see why things may have taken a little longer than we originally planned.
However we are going full throttle ahead! Jack now has a teenage haven to go and slob in – I have a few posts coming up about this – and Olivia’s is going to be getting updated once again, ready for Hannah to move in! But the most important job right now? The garden.
As you can imagine we don’t have a lot of space with four kids so we need to do as much as we can to maximise this space. We want a decent outdoor space for the kids to play so Steve has been painstakingly levelling the ground and fixing the grass where the dog runs that little bit too much. But with a lack of space in the house, we were looking to get a little more use out of our garden and decided upon a garden room.
Our dining room currently has a few things in it such as the desk and the dartboard – and the shed has the exercise bike – and we want to get them out of here and move into their very own space, hence why we have been looking at garden rooms. We have been doing our research to find out what size we want and how they can be customised – something Modern Garden Rooms offers. They know that one size doesn’t fit all so they offer five different architecturally designed buildings which can each be fully customised. They can even extend it if you have the space available.
But what do we plan to use a garden room for?
An Office
I work at home during the day and it can be easy to get distracted! Whilst it wouldn’t be practical to use this whilst at home alone with the two youngest, it would be a great office when they are at nursery or someone else is at home.
With Jack heading into Year 9 in September, it is also important to have a space for him to do his homework. He has got his room but unfortunately he is in the box room which means he has little space for a desk. A garden room with the desk in it provides the perfect sanctuary for him!
A Sports Area
Steve is very keen to have a garden room so he can go on the exercise bike in peace or play a game of darts, either alone or with friends. He’s also looking to get a fold up treadmill but there is no space for it in this house right now. Having a space available at the bottom of the garden to head to seems like the perfect option.
A Chill Out Zone During The Winter
Finally we are looking to use it as somewhere to enjoy during the colder months. We often have BBQs and dinner outside during the summer and love to entertain our family and friends. Why should that have to stop for winter, just because it is a little colder? This would offer us the perfect space to entertain!
I can’t wait to get our garden ready over these warmer months so we can enjoy it a little more. Are you doing anything to your garden this year?
