You don’t have to have any Irish heritage to use Celtic symbolism in your wedding. Finding some traditions to use in your own wedding can add a layer of meaning for you and your partner that will help you to remember the love and commitment you have for each other for years to come. Here are a few ways to add these traditions to your wedding.
You can add some of this symbolism in the kind of ring you chose to use. The Claddagh ring was used to symbolize friendship, love, and loyalty. The ring shows a heart being held by two hands. If you don’t want to use the traditional ring, you can still engrave the words inside the band to remind you about your commitment to your partner.
You can also add symbolism to your ceremony by adding handfasting. Handfasting was used as an engagement ceremony, but now is used during or immediately following the vows. The officiator takes a ribbon or rope to tie the hands of the couple together to show that they are becoming one.
You can also add symbolism to your decorations by using the visual of the horseshoe in decorations. Irish brides used to carry an actual horseshoe down the aisle, but you could add a small horseshoe charm to your bouquet to show that you are bringing the same luck into the marriage.
