Family finances… one of the great banes of our lives. Once we have kids and we start trying to stabilise our family money situation it can be pretty darn stressful. Between feeding the kids and paying your bills, you may feel like you have to live super frugal to be left with any money for yourself.
Today though we want to help you learn some simple money management tips to allow you to avoid using Tully Rinckey to help you with your money issues. Here are some of the simple ways you can ensure you don’t overspend in your life and you still have enough money for yourself.
Write a list
The first and most important tip we have to offer is to write a shopping list before you go. Shopping without a list is a dangerous game and it often causes us to spend more money buying more food for ourselves and the kids. By writing a meal plan and the items you NEED before you go, it will be easier to stick to good habits.
Don’t take the kids shopping
If you can avoid it, it is better not to bring the kids to the supermarket with you. They will always end up asking you for things and you will also become distracted by them and end up placing more items in your trolley without thinking. Always make sure if possible to leave the kids at home.
With the sharp rise of streaming services in our lives, who really uses cable TV anymore? If you are paying for a service such as cable, a landline phone, or a gym membership that you don’t use: get rid! You will immediately save yourself a ton of money and this can be put to better use in other ways.
Use loyalty schemes
Be honest, how many times have you actually looked on your Nectar Card app to see what offers you could take advantage of? Loyalty schemes like these are ones that many of us have but not enough of us really use. Take the time before you shop to look for offers and this will ensure you don’t overspend for no reason.
Sell your stuff
If you have items in your house that you never use or don’t need any more, why throw them away when you can sell them? Many people make the simple mistake of not selling their items online and it can be costing us money. Think about the items you have and set them up for sale on a site such as eBay.
Get clothes from thrift shops
Although you might be used to your usual fashion stores when shopping for new clothes, you can often get cheaper and better quality items at a thrift shop or in a charity shop. Don’t feel above these places because you can often find some great steals that are fashionable and will last you for a long time. Head over to your local shop today and see what you can find!
