Christmas is just around the corner and most of us will end up filling out houses with lots of presents, new furnishings, and food for the big day. Christmas is a time when the house is often full to the brim of items, and this year should be no different.
However if you want to bring a whole lot of things into the house during the festive season it is also a good idea to clear old things you don’t need. That’s why today we want to talk about some of the ways you can clear out your home to make the festive season easier.
Clear the pantry
The first port of call when clearing out the house for Christmas is to clean the pantry. It is likely that you haven’t cleared out the pantry for a while and it needs organising. If you have a lot of old cans of food as well as things you know you won’t eat now is the time for you to get rid and have a fresh start. Consider transferring some of your foods such as flour and drugs into airtight jars for easy storage and give the cupboards a wipe.
Start clearing the freezer now
When Christmas time comes around it is a good idea for you to get the freezer ready and leave space for leftover food. The freezer can be a valuable asset during the Christmas period as you can freeze meat, vegetables and pigs in blankets ready for use another day. Start to clear out your freezer now by eating meals made with ingredients you can find in there. It will make life much easier and will be a brilliant way to save space.

Sell your old furniture
Now is a great time to look around your home to see if there are pieces of furniture you no longer want or need. You can look online for tips for selling antiques and consider putting your pieces up on eBay or Shpock for people to buy. Selling an old piece of furniture is always better than throwing it away so consider this as a way to make a little bit of money this week.
Give clothes to charity
Christmas is a time for giving, and this year in particular people need kindness more than ever. Take the opportunity to give away some of your old clothes to charity this winter and help keep someone in need warm and clothed. It can be a brilliant way to do something good at Christmas time and will also be a gesture you will not forget.
If you haven’t used it in a year, say goodbye
One of the best ways to decide what to keep and what to sell in your home is to look around and see what you have and haven’t used. If you haven’t worn something for over a year consider throwing it away and making room for something new. If you don’t use an item or it has been in the loft for an extended period of time, it might be time for you to say goodbye to it once and for all.
