I don’t know about you but when I find a mobile network that fits me, I tend to stick with it. I only change if there is an offer I simply can’t refuse elsewhere or if the customer service from the existing network leaves little to be desired. From the age of 11 until around 18, I stuck with Vodafone. That was because it was what everyone in my family was on and I wasn’t on a contract, just Pay As You Go, which as you can imagine as a teen could be very frustrating when I ran out of credit! I was briefly with One-To-One (which turned into T-Mobile) with my first phone (a Sagem) but Vodafone came a calling when my Dad bought me my Nokia 3310 (still one of the best phones ever created!).
I only came away from Vodafone when my phone broke and my friend lent me her old one which was a Virgin PAYG. I loved it as every weekend they gave me hundreds of free texts and I made it my aim to try to use them all. I never managed it though but I gave it a good try. This was handy though as I had just started dating Steve who would work in London all day and work all weekend at the village pub – we needed constant communication!
Once me and Steve moved in together, we looked into getting a contract and we both got phones on o2. We had these for a while and then briefly had Orange phones alongside our o2 ones but soon cancelled that as soon as we could as we weren’t happy. Luckily we still had our o2 ones and we kept with those until Steve changed a year or so back to Virgin. I had won an iPhone 5 which I gave to him and since we had a bundle with Virgin already for other services, they offered him an amazing deal. I stuck with o2 except I downgraded to a much cheaper SIM only deal and it was only this year where I also moved across to Virgin, with Steve taking out two new contracts for the two of us.
Between us I think we have covered most of the mobile networks in our time as mobile phone owners and some we have been very happy with and others not so much. It is important to find the right mobile network for you – this guide may be of some help – and your needs. Whether you want a certain amount of minutes, texts, data – its important to do your research and find out what deal and with which network is the best for you.
We picked Virgin as Steve was already with them, we had a bundle deal already and they had offers we couldn’t refuse – they had both the phones we wanted at extremely reasonable monthly prices and we got a free Samsung tablet – it would have been impossible to resist.
What do you require most from your mobile network?
