For those of us who’ve had babies, we’ve all had that well meaning friend buy something that is totally inappropriate for our newborn – whether it be a toy that they won’t be able to play with for years yet or even going completely against your wishes and purchasing something you’d always said you would never use/buy for your baby yourself. We all grin and bear it, plastering that fake smile on our face and thanking them kindly for their gift but let’s face it, it has happened to all of us and it would be great if the gifts we received were totally appropriate, right?
That’s not to say we should expect gifts though – a gift to me is a bonus and Jack was very lucky with what he received. Baby girl isn’t even here yet and yet she already has a multitude of gifts from friends and family – clothing, bedding, toys, books. They’ve both been incredibly lucky to receive such lovely baby gifts from those we care about.
But what if I told you that popular mother and baby brand Mamas and Papas have created a fantastic interactive tool to help people find the perfect gift for a baby. Asking simple questions such as your relationship to the baby, the due date, their gender, your budget and what you are celebrating (birth, birthday, Christmas, christening and even for the mum), you then click find the perfect gift and will be shown a variety of products most suitable to your needs. This gift finder has proved invaluable to me this week as I am attending a christening for my friend’s little girl and whilst they would like money for her bank account which I am more than happy to give as a gift, I realised I have no clue what to buy babies for their christenings. Whilst I won’t be grabbing a gift this time around due to the wish for money for her bank account, its handy to know what type of things are suitable to buy a child for their christening as I was totally baffled!
I’ve also used the tool to see what possible products would pop up for baby girl when she arrives and some of the most adorable stuff has popped up – a soft toy elephant, a photo frame and more that would just be perfect.
I’m glad that a brand like Mamas and Papas has had the foresight to create such a tool for us confused gift givers. It can be so tough to find something perfect for people that is both appropriate for them but also suits our budgetary needs too. With many friends due babies not long after me and also many christenings and birthdays to come next year, I can definitely see me using this tool extensively.
Would you use a tool like this – are you like me and get so worried when it comes to choosing the perfect gift?
