I am now of the age where the majority of my friends have either had children or are having children. I’d like to think I’ve got the gift buying down to an art but buying the perfect gift for a newborn can be a minefield. With my friend Lisa due very soon, I’ve been thinking about what the perfect gift for a newborn truly is.
Baby Clothes
It can be tough to know what size to get – some babies are born early and need smaller than the newborn and some are quite large at birth and go straight into a larger size. Baby clothes are always a welcome gift though – you go through many outfit changes in those early days.
A Blanket
Now a blanket is something that will probably be gifted thrice over – it seems to be a very popular gift to buy a newborn. However, you can always do with more than one blanket – one for the car, one for the house, one for the pushchair when out, one at the grandparents. A blanket is always a good gift to opt for if you aren’t sure.
A Nightlight
We all know that newborns don’t exactly sleep like we do. A nightlight is a wonderful gift to have as the baby will spend some time distracted by the pretty shapes on the ceiling and the calming lullaby sounds drifting them off to sleep. My parents had one for me, we had one for Jack and even Olivia too.
A Car Seat
I suppose this is a gift for a newborn although really it helps the parent out more by saving them some money. Car seats are a necessity for getting out and about and Kiddie Kingdom’s stylish range of car seats for sale are certainly worth a look. Safe, durable and affordable; just what every parent needs. Car seats are a necessity, after all.
Some Baby Toys
A newborn isn’t going to have the dexterity of an older baby, of course – but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t buy some age appropriate toys. We always made sure the kids had bath toys and some toys to help them with their development.
Some Books
It is never too early to start reading to a child so I’m sure any parent would be appreciative if you bought their baby some books to start off their own personal library. Jack was gifted plenty of books as a baby and his library has grown exponentially since then.

Love these ideas, especially the night light, that’s such a great present idea for a newborn. My boys loved their nightlights when they were younger and slept better for having them! x
I’d add a starter cloth nappy bundle to that list too. I think a lot of parents don’t realise how easy they are to use.
One of my friend is literally about to pop and since she’s the first in our friendship group to have a baby, none of us were quite sure what to get her. I may just forward this to everyone we know to be honest! Haha! Thank you!

My favourite ever gift when I had a baby was a bouquet of flowers, or so I thought, they were actually baby socks etc made into a bouquet
This is a really handy list of things to buy a newborn, I am always so useless with buying gifts off the bat for my friends who have recently had babies. I normally just ask what they need and get them that.
I always gift a copy of a favourite book to read, add a little inscription on the inside cover and it is something to look back on across the years
