It was a strange book, this one, Kane definitely surprises you. The scenes are often macabre and a little OTT but the premise of the book is interesting. However, it fell a little short, in my opinion. A full review will be on Ellie’s blog soon.

This was the other book I picked from Ellie’s review pile – and the better of the two. Although this book is the eighth in the series, it works perfectly well as a stand alone too – which to me, always marks out a good book! Dr Siri Palboun isn’t your stereotypical investigator – he’s nearing eighty and looking for an easy life but life in Laos just doesn’t work that way. Fantastic book, definitely worth a read.

This book was creepy, haunting and kept you guessing throughout. I was offered the chance to review this & I only had to take a brief glance at the synopsis before I knew it was one for me. Serious subject matters such as mental illness, child abuse and murder are brought into play here but are handled sensitively by the author. One to add to your to-read pile.
Three books. That is all I managed this month. Its hard enough trying to read with a 9 month old but three books is distinctly unimpressive compared to last months total..
What are your must-reads of the summer?
I am SO impressed you can read one boon even! I bought the girl with the dragon tattoo when Aiden was maybe 3 months old and I'm only on chapter three – he is now just about 7 months! Haha! My sister did say that book was hard to get into (but worth it) so thats my excuse! 😉
I love the idea of this challenge though, I have so many book upstairs that I have bought and either half read or not read at all! Disgraceful! Xo

The Girl on the Stairs has me interested – I might have to try hunt that one out. I started off with the challenge of reading 100 books this year too but I had to knock it down to 50. Which I'm only half way to achieving. I've been reading 1930s noir novels. Old school Hollywood meets a bit of murder/thriller!

With a little kid, I'm impressed you've read as many books as you have! I have no kids and I've only read 20 books this year. My goodreads challenge was to read 50. Yeah, I'm a bit behind too. The next book I want to read is How To Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran. I heard an interview with her on the radio recently and she was just hilarious.
Otherwise there are a few sequels I want to catch up on. Insurgent, Black Heart, Bitter Blue, and the last couple of ones by Cassandra Claire she's released. What can I say? I love me some young adult fantasy 😉
