Book Challenge Update: Halfway Through

I think we can safely say that I am failing miserably at this challenge and am unlikely to complete it unless I have a sudden burst of reading! However, here is my update for halfway through.

23. Fifty Shades Darker by E L James

(Amazon/GoodReads)
I know this series of book is essentially like Marmite…you either love them or hate them. Whilst I enjoyed the first book, I do feel that it took quite a long while to get into and was poorly written. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this book as not only was it written much better than the first but it also had a background story running throughout rather than being all about sex. It was interesting to see what happened to Ana and Christian after the cliffhanger from the first book and was also immensely irritating when it leaves a cliffhanger for the third!

24. Fifty Shades Freed by E L James

(Amazon/GoodReads)
By far my favourite of the three books. Although this book has been slightly controversial for some of the scenes and dialogue (some which admittedly left me feeling a little uncomfortable), this has to be the best of the books. There is a crime story running throughout, a sense of intrigue, a whole ton of emotions such as jealousy, anger and fear. It is a shame that some people can’t get past the first book to read the others in the series as they are far better.

25. What Lies Within by Audrey Finch

(Amazon/GoodReads)
I won’t say too much about this book here as I dedicated a whole post to reviewing it here, however this book is a definite must-read. Crime, suspense, drama. All in one handy little package. The book has also changed cover since I reviewed it and I must say, I love it! What do you think?

26. Playing The Game by Belle De Jour

(Amazon/GoodReads)
Really into the sex-based books recently, it seems! I think I may have started reading this before, but didn’t finish it before having to return it to the library as some of the story seems a little familiar. I’ve always been interested in the Belle De Jour story so this was a definite must-read on my list.

27. One Perfect Summer by Paige Toon

Although a little predictable, I hadn’t read any proper chicklit in ages so I indulged in this book after reading Rachel and Charlotte rave about it on Facebook, Twitter and various other places – it was a no-brainer, really. It was just what I needed to chill out in the sunshine with!
What books are you reading right now? I’m just about to start The Humorist by Russell Kane. Have you got Goodreads? If so, add me here.

I'm slowly trawling through the first 50 shades boom (it really is poorly written, isn't it?) The BdJ books look so interesting ! Xo

    1. They are, you should definitely give the BDJ books a go xo

  2. I don't think I could get into the 50 shades thing the writing is so poor from what i've read and in my past I use to read proper sex bdsm stories and yeah its nothing compared to what BDSM stories should be like.

I'm currently reading The Beach House by Jane Green which I'd say more grown up chic lit, good read so far too!

    1. Ooh I'll have to keep an eye out for that xo
