Spending Ban | One Month Long

That’s right, I am starting a spending ban. Although I have been quite restrained in my spending recently, I know that come the end of this month I may go a little crazy. The past few months have been tough financially but now Steve has got a job, I know that my mindset will automatically think of all the goodies I can now afford once payday rolls around. However, I have a wedding and a house to save up for so I think a spending ban is more than necessary.

I know for a fact that 100 days would be way too tough for me, so when Kat from Tales Of A Pale Face tweeted about going on a spending ban for the month of May, I was all over it.

Rules
No buying beauty products. I should be okay for essentials as I am pretty well stocked up so there is NO excuse for buying any!

No magazines or books except for my Glamour subscription. This includes free Kindle books, even though they are exactly that – free! I am already kind of on a book buying ban but am constantly filling my Kindle up with freebies – this needs to stop as I need to get a few read before adding more.

I will not buy food out of the house. If I am doing a long shift, take lunch in. If I am doing a short shift, but think I will get hungry or thirsty, take something with me to combat that when it occurs rather than running into Boots and coming out with tons of chocolate and a new lipstick.

Kat is keeping all of her empties too which I think is a great idea. I haven’t written an empties post in a while but I have a steadily growing collection which I shall showcase at the end of May.

I will also be putting up wishlists of products I am lusting after too – this won’t be a regular thing, but sporadic as and when the time is right.

Have you ever been on a spending ban? How did you get on?

Well done Bex! I did spending ban at the beginning of the year, I think around nearly two months, it felt really good! Maybe I should join you in this one as I went I bit crazy the last few weeks! LOL! Big hugs <3

  2. I tried the 100 days ones and failed at week 11 and had a few spends. I'm doing the May ban too x

  3. I had a no clothing or product spend for April and it was hard but nearly over now. I shall now only buy essentials for the rest of the year. Good luck!!

  4. GOOD LUCK you lovely, frugal lady. I've almost finished paying off my credit card and if I could do something like this I know I could be debt free within a month or two! I may have to take a leaf out of your book… Though I'm not sure I can be quite so strict on myself! (Could I possibly borrow a spoonful or your willpower?)

Looking forward to seeing how you get on! Xx

  5. Good luck I am definitely considering doing that as well! Have to see how I feel come the end of the month if I'd be able to do it for the month of May might do a tight budget one instead haha.
