Collaborative Post
I don’t know about you but growing up, the subject of sex always seemed to be taboo. Despite the fact we all know that most people have it – our parents too, since we are physical evidence of this! – and the fact that children learn about it in primary school due to it being a part of everyday life, it still seemed like a subject that people didn’t really talk about.
Even talking about it with my friends as I got older seemed weird – the male friends in my life would talk about it until the cows came home but us ladies often seemed more shy to discuss the subject. However I have found as I have got older, I have become more sex positive and I believe this is because of a variety of reasons. If you are looking to become more sex positive, here are some things that you can do.
Talk To Your Friends
I am very lucky. I have friends on both ends of the spectrum – some who won’t discuss the topic at all (and that is completely their choice!) and others who would talk about it all day if they could. I have found that I have become more sex positive since my friendships with these friends have grown as I came to realise the topic does not need to be taboo. Things are only taboo if we allow them to be!
Two of my friends especially are incredibly sex positive and it certainly has an influence on those around them, in a positive way.
Try Something New
It can be terrifying to try something new, especially in the bedroom. But a great way to become more sex positive is by trying something a little different whether that is a new position or by incorporating some new anal sex toys from Lovehoney into your time together. There are plenty of toys out there and Lovehoney has toys suitable for all occasions. Whether you are on your own or in a couple, there will be something suitable for you to try. You might choose beads or a vibrator or maybe something entirely different – the choice is completely up to you.

Communicate
There is nothing worse than feeling like you are not being listened to, especially in the bedroom. But if you don’t communicate what you like and don’t like to your partner, they may not ever know. By communicating and opening a dialogue, you are ensuring everyone is on the same page and you both get what you want out of the experience. The last thing that you want is to be left unsatisfied and resentful of your partner, simply because you didn’t communicate properly.
Educate Yourself
Not everyone likes everything. Just because something isn’t for you doesn’t mean it isn’t for someone else. Some people have fetishes, others don’t understand this. Some people like multiple partners, others like just one.
There is no place for judgement in sex positivity and it is important to educate ourselves, not only on experiences that we would be happy to have but also on experiences that others have so that we do not judge them for the things that they enjoy – this includes shaming them with derogatory names simply because we do not understand what they like.
Be Informed About Consent
I’m sure that we all know about consent and why it is required. However it is important to know when it is an absolute yes and why we should avoid doing it altogether if there is any grey area. So many people think that they are informed about consent when they actually aren’t at all. There is no room for grey areas when it comes to consent so make sure all parties are consenting before anything happens.
I hope this post is helpful in helping you to be more sex positive. There are many other things that you can do to help you on your sex positivity journey but these are great starting points.
